Did Michele McPhee step in it?

Maine State Police calls the erstwhile crime fiction writer's assertion on WCVB that cops believe a missing Waterville, ME toddler is dead "unattributed, irresponsible and inaccurate." The story, which briefly appeared on WCVB (and sister station WMTW) under the subject "Police Believe Missing Maine Toddler Dead," has been scrubbed from the stations' respective websites.

Saw the Maine State police interview on WCVB and WBZ tonight and though they did not say it outright they sure strongly inferred it.

It's kind of stating the obvious isn't it?
The only point of contention the Cops might have is if MM said she was told this personally by someone in the Dept. I gather she said no such thing.
