DID SHE JUST SAY THAT?

Lorraine O'Donnell to Tom Donahoe on WECK 1230 AM this morning:

"You are SO getting laid tonight."

I'm sorry, that is crass and uncalled for. I don't care what goofy on-air game they have Tom playing these days, what in the heck do you think he was thinking when that flew out of her mouth?

I know, I know, it's nothing new with her. She makes silly comments and has sexual innuendo tied into a lot of her happy talk, but how in the world does Dick Greene think that is appropriate for an AM station that my parents and many of our parents (and many of us!) used to listen to for "the music of your life?"

Call me old-fashioned, call me a prude, but that is NOT the time of hometown radio that I want to listen to. This is a lower-powered AM station doing news and talk, not shock jock radio on the FM dial.

Tom Donahue.

Apologies for the misspelling of "The Professor's" last name.

Hang in there Tom.

Didn't hear it. But if this is in fact what was said, it's embarrassing. The W**K morning show is neither fish nor fowl. Again, who is this morning show trying to appeal to? If it's trying to do edgy stuff, it's getting beat by Lederman on 97 Rock and Bull on 103. If it's attempting to do news, it's getting smacked by WBEN, WNED-AM and WBFO. If it's attempting to do local, it runs up against WJYE, Star, WHTT and WYRK. Talk about being boxed in. Hard to imagine what Donahue is thinking when he hears comments like this from O'Donnell, who's a far better actress and songstress than she is a radio person.

Oh, I think it's closer to fowl.

Now that they're FM they have to get the attention of the younger crowd somehow, I guess.

Sorry, Yez, WrECK ain't on FM...

Sorry, wrong station. Wasn't paying attention, I guess.

I hope I'm at least correct in suggesting it's the "anything for attention" station. :D

Well, Yez, let's ask this question:

Did anyone else hear the remark in question?

That's what I though. Imagine if Susan Rose had uttered such a remark.

I'll say it again, with the exception of Tom...clean house. Bill O'Laughlin (sp) is just awful, as is Lorraine and most of the others. The best thing on their air was Dennis Miller and they got rid of him.

I wish Dick Green had read this board before he decided to go the "Home Town Radio" route. There was a lot of input from some old knowledgable radio people. The current format isn't working. The HLD format was what he should have gone with...

How much does Dennis Miller cost?
Is this another one of those "Spend 5 bucks to make 6" vs "Spend 500 to make 600" debates?

Actually Dennis is now on at night. After Yankee games, and I think at 6:30 if there isn't a Yankee game.

I must listen to too many podcasts or something, because this Lorraine comment seems pretty tame.

Podcasts are a different thing, this is mass audience radio. Not something I would have ever thought of saying on the air!

If you're 97 Rock, the Edge or Howard Stern, then the comment would be "pretty tame." But when you label yourself as "hometown" radio while trying to market yourself as a serious news alternative to WBEN, then such a comment is out of place. I'm sure Tom was horrified by the remark. The powers that be at W--K need to decide what they want to be in the morning. Right now, there's not much of a reason to listen to the station in morning drive. If you want news, WBEN, WNED-AM and WBFO do a much better job. If you want morning zoo chatter, you have 97 Rock.

I think WECK's plan with the morning show is to give "some of everything" with Tom (news guy) and Loraine (making it "fun"). Problem is they don't mix well at all and it's awful. You can feel Donahue's pain sometimes.

Lorraine said "I'm pissed off" about three times last week when talking about the Green Party and she also said "that sucks" today about something related to the GOP.

Totally unprofessional. Would Susan Rose EVER say that on the air?

No Lorraine today. Tom and Corey the producer sounded great together. Tom seemed to be more at ease, more relaxed. I think it's nice to have a change every once in awhile and let Tom be Tom and not be on pines and needles about what Lorraine might say next that is going to embarass him or tongue-tie him.

DING! DING! DING! I may have a winner:

I just heard Lorraine use the word "******bag".

I believe that's a 8 out of 10 on the Tom cringe-o-meter.

On the upside, it's likely you're one of only 28 people who heard it.
