The posts on this board came to a screaching halt...just struck me as odd, being that there has been so much activity in the last few weeks. New topics anyone?

I guess just not a lot going on in Columbus radio compared to the past few weeks. No format flips, no new websites, etc. What hasn't been talked about to death I suppose is the combined ratings that were released 1/19.

The only thing of note really is the absolutely dismal ratings of The Blitz. With WAZU switching to country can they count on a bump? Was Stern keeping the station afloat? Would a Ted format on a Blitz-sized signal do better?

The 90's were a good decade for the Blitz... grunge, rock were very popular. Now Hip-Hop has taken over the "new" music scene... However the Blitz's ratings were UP winter quarter from Fall Quarter... Maybe since the Big Wazoo is gone it will help them... The funniest thing about that situation is that this new WINK 107.1 actually thinks it can compete with WCOL, which was the #1 FM station winter quarter. What are they thinking?!?!

I got a chance to hear "Wink" on my way back to Dayton a week or so ago. I liked the sound of it. Unfortunately, WCOL's signal strength will give them a huge edge.

I don't think anyone thinks Wink can compete directly with COL. The goal is teaming up WHOK & WINK to get a higher share than they were individually. It's not like WAZU was bringing much in. Even getting a small percentage from COL would be big for the stations.

What ratings are you looking at? The Arbitron Quarterly released recently was for Fall, not Winter. The Blitz was down a full point vs. Summer, and also down a full point vs. last Fall. And WCOL-FM was the #2 FM in the latest quarterly, not #1. (It *was* #1 in the Summer.)

The Blitz is almost sure to pop back up some, because I don't see how that kind of signal could go any lower (and AZU going away will give them at least a few tenths of a point). But yes, it's time to give that format a rest, especially with Stern gone. I'll bet there are at least 3 or 4 other formats that could pull bigger numbers for them. But between its past success and Hal's personal preference for Active Rock, I doubt it will be going anywhere (double entendre intended).
