Did Someone Steal the old WPBA/WABE Tower?

I was on Cheshire Bridge Road and noticed that (what I assumed was) the original WPBA-TV/WABE-FM tower seemed to be gone. But a short STL tower was visible. So I drove over to Bismarck Road, and my eyes were not lying.

In recent years, I believe the tower's only function was to relay the signals to New Street. As I recall, the old tower contained a TV antenna and FM bays so it likely was the main site for both stations at one time. I don't know whether it was ever an aux.

Next to the station's building, new townhouse construction is taking place, and I'm wondering whether the tower was on that land. I wonder if the new residents will become ill from the remaining RF! (Just kidding.)

They took that old guyed tower down last year. Replaced with the shorter self supporter. My understanding was: the tower was a huge liability. It only held the WABE / WPBA StL and some cell stuff. The 6 bay was very defunct...the last time I was there, the rigid line was open near the bottom of the tower.

It might have made for an OK still.....
