Did the B change plans at the last minute?

A credible source tells me that last weekend, everything needed to flip K-Rock to Jack was installed in the old B94 studio. Reportedly the software was given a dry run and a couple of weekend people were given the heads-up that it was coming. The plan was to flip as soon as Howard's show was over on Friday, but it didn't happen.

Think maybe Diamond Dave got thrown a few more markets at the last minute to justify his cost?

Cleveland is also a curious choice for Roth, where he will replace Stern on classic rock WNCX, as Rover from Xtreme 92.5 in cleveland has also been named as one of Howard's replacments, but they're moving him to Chicago (not sure if his show stays in place on Xtreme).
______________

1. It's 92.3 MHz

2. It's no longer Xtreme Radio; they dropped that slogan last week and are now "92-3X" with more of an alternative feel

3. Rover stays on at 92.3. It's the only market which has the two Stern replacements head-to-head.

They should have went to the Jack format and they could have still had Diamond Dave on in the morning. As one of the guys on the variety hits board said that there is no advanced warning when a station goes Jack.

Have no fear my friend, my sources say that both Roth & Jack are coming to the Burgh next week. Now if Keymarket would finally wise up & fip one of their Frogs which dominate our dails, things would become rather interesting!

Maybe it is one of the other infinity stations that will change?

I would love the hear what/who your "sources" are. I know you will comeback with some " that would break my trust with my source" or " it would give me away" B.S. answer. if you can prove what you are saying is true...I will believe it before i hear it.

No, I just don't want to tell you.

And honestly, I can't vouch that this is 100% correct, but the info I get from this person is usually highly accurate. That's pretty much the definition of a credible source in my book.

But I'm still not telling.

So there.
______________

That would be the other B.S. answer I was referring to. I am calling Bogus until otherwise. What is funny though, from my experiences radio people can't keep their mouth shut...so I kinda want to believe you...I hope K Rock stays. I like it.

Whilst channel-surfing on the radio...

...I landed on 93.7. And I heard a promo which consisted of a clip of Stern interviewing David Lee Roth, bantering with him, and joking about how if Roth fails, they'll get Sammy Hagar. The tagline of the promo was to catch David Lee Roth in place of Howard Stern starting January 3, 2006.

That's not inside info. That's what the station broadcast over the airwaves. I guess that makes it outside info.

As for whether they go Jack for the rest of the time, that wasn't mentioned in the on-air promo.

Did you actually read what I wrote?

I SAID, that they were all set to flip it LAST FRIDAY and then didn't. I was then speculating that, at the last minute, additional markets were added to Roth's roster.

Hopefully they'll put up billboards. Sheesh.
______________

Yeah, I read what you said. You were talking about 93.7 being set to flip to Jack, and then it didn't. Then you speculated about David Lee Roth. You didn't say whether the switch to Jack was totally cancelled or simply postponed.

I confirmed that David Lee Roth was being promoted on-air as starting on January 3, 2006. And I said that 93.7's on-air promotion also didn't say if switching the rest of their day to Jack was cancelled or simply postponed.

> I SAID, that they were all set to flip it LAST FRIDAY and

And I didn't dispute or disagree with anything that you said.

> Hopefully they'll put up billboards. Sheesh.

No, they'll probably get enough publicity from regular media coverage, PR campaigns, etc. Besides, they already have good listenership on Stern's show. They can promote the changeover to Roth on Stern's show.

Again, you just don't get it about marketing. There are lots of different ways to promote a radio station or program. Billboards are one of the best for promoting a station that the potential audience knows nothing about, like if you were trying to get country fans to sample Froggy. This situation is more like Jay Leno taking over from Johnny Carson. It's a different marketing problem, and it calls for a different solution.

Re: Whilst channel-surfing on the radio...

You know what you should have said PT? All you had to say was: that's exactly what you would expect a station to do. It's always business as usual right up until the flip or the stunt, whichever comes first. Everything seems normal to the listener. Plus it would be conspicuously absent if K-rock DIDN'T air the promos for Dave, now wouldn't it?? How long til someone would have said hey, there's zero promotion of Dave on K-Rock.. why is that..? The promo means nothing.

Star 100.7 has got to be the weakest sounding hot a/c I have ever heard. It's almost a JACK now anyways. Maybe 1-2 currents an hour, and hours/days with flashback weekends. Boring.
