Did the big power surge happen?

Did the Q max out? Did they make a big deal about it?
Of course, now that it may have happened...How will,
never mind.

Hey Tibbs, it happened, and I think Q did a great job of hyping it. I can't remember the last time a CHR promoted a power increase in such a spectacular manner, and I I have no doubt whatsoever that Q's ratings will double in the next 6 months.

The strange thing was when Q100 turned on the increased power, DAVE-FM went off the air. I don't know if there was any connection, but they're both atop the Westin. DAVE is now back on.

If Q did have a big power surge, they must have sucked the life out of dave...they were off the air for quite some time late this afternoon!

Seriously though, aren't dave & Q on the same tower? Didn't I hear someone mention that once? If they are, would Q's power increase effect dave's signal? Or is that even feasible?

I know dave has been having some signal issues the past couple weeks. I live out near Gwinnett and have had trouble picking them up lately (dave...not Q).
______________

HA! How do ya like that?!

I posted about this pretty much the same time you did (however, mine was more in form of a question).

Great minds...

They're coming in a lot better in Columbus

I'm able to receive them a lot better down here in Columbus. Their signal is much steadier, with no noticeable fading. Back when they were 3kW, I could only hear them at night and their signal faded constantly. I'm glad they boosted the signal, since their weekend mix shows are awesome.

FYI, I've got a monster APS-13 antenna mounted at 25 feet, so I'm able to receive almost every Atlanta station without any problems.

92-9 Dave-FM has been down for over a month! I'm sure Falcons fans and Mr. Blank don't like it. Who would've thought 640's night signal into Gwinnett would be better than Dave's signal. Anyone know what is going on or when/if Dave will be back at full power? J-93.3 and Magic 102.9 have better signal in Gwinnett than Dave! This is going to hurt their ratings. I'm sure a number of listeners OTP (outside the Perimeter) have found static on their radios and tuned around for something more powerful. Unfortunately, some of those radios may stay at the "something else" station for a while before going back. That's the downside to being down for so long. They will almost need a small ad campaign to tell everyone when they are back to full power. I'm guessing most of those listeners will go to 96 Rock or 99X until Dave is back at full power and a small number may stay at those two? I like Dave FM, but I do worry about the impact of being down too long. We know they will be back. The average listener hears static and hits scan, play (CD or MP3 Player) or another preset.

Q-100 sounds great now! They must have adjusted something earlier this week, because signal improved slightly this week and then doubled that today. They were counting down the hours until the power increase, but I wasn't listening when the power increased. Anyone driving out of the city to report on how far it goes now?
______________

I carried them to Dalton tonight, but 100.7 in Chatt eventually drowned them out. But, they were very strong. Basically it sounded like a 100k station, very impressive.

I was in the Atlanta Airport during the boost. It almost sounded like they were preparing to change formats. I've never heard a station make that big of a deal out of a power increase. In any case, it was pretty neat to hear.

Since you're out that way, how is Q's signal out in Duluth? Out in my old neck of the woods (Satellite and 120), it was quite scratchy. CBs from the 18-wheelers on 85 would even intefere sometimes.

I guess it helped south AND north. (Of course, I'm halfway up a mountain, but picked it up clearly on a small radio in the basement.)

I wasn't listening during the increase, but this morning for work I had to drive up to MacFarland Road, and I didn't hear not one bit of static. As for DAVE, last weekend driving back from Charlotte, I could pick up all of the 100k signals a little north of Commerce except for DAVE. I was trying to listen to the Falcons game on the way back in to town. So, it's good to see that they got there problems sorted-out.

The power increase at 5 was cool. They had a flasback from when they started and every promotion they have done since. It was great production! It started with static and as soon as the promo finished it was clear.

I was in my house during the switchover and the static that was there before is now gone on my home stereo. My portable digital radio now seeks in 100.5 unlike before. However, Saturday morning when I drove home from work from Stone Mountain to Loganville at 3am, Whistle 100 was overpowering Q100 on my car radio bigtime just like in the old days. I'd say Whistle 100 was playing over 50% of the time and very clear I might add. Of course, it had rained earlier and usually signals pickup much clearer before and after storms. Did the signal upgrade really correct this issue?
