Did the CodeRED tests work OK?

Let’s remember that EAS was an “upgrade” of the old EBS system from the cold War. The EBS / EAS system thankfully was never used for its original purpose (WW3 and nuclear war). With EAS’s ability to remotely “take control” of a radio station, this made it “easier” for unmanned stations and allowing owners to get rid of the unneeded evening and night time announcers. The “reverse 911 systems” are just the local government’s realization that TV, Radio and Cable systems can not reach every one especially late at night when most people are a sleep. Of course the “unmanned radio stations” do not help. It was sad when last week the preacher at my church announced that any future Church closing announcement would be on Channel 2 because the local stations were on “automatic”!

Code Red has been in use in several counties pretty successfully for quite a while now. As mentioned, it's not a replacement for EAS but rather it is a "redundancy" or at least another layer of alerting.

Then again, some counties press the Stoopid Switch when they have it...
"Imagine my surprise when I found out that the Reverse 911 wasn't about an Amber Alert, tornado, fire, man wielding a gun ... but that it was about, 'If you don't pay your bill, your garbage cans will be taken away,'" said Stephenson, whose phone and cable service offers the caller ID on her television.
