DID THE KFMB-FM Jack MONKEYS TAKE OVER THE AUTOMATION AT KFMB-AM?

Geez Louise what was going on last night at KFMB-AM 760?

You had spots steppin on each other very accurately before the ABC News feed, and then when they were finished with a replay of Clark Howard at 3 a.m., the station went into total dead air until the last five minutes of Dirk Van, once again spots were steppin on each other right before ABC News, then instead of "America This Morning" they started playing Bill O'Reilly's consistently dreadful radio show from Friday at 4 a.m....then i fell asleep (finally)!

You would think that there would be some system in place that if the automation went crazy that someone would get down to the station and try to get things back in order. It's also funny that they run promos calling KFMB Talkradio 760 as "your breaking news station" -- yet there would be nobody at the steering wheel if there WAS a breaking news story especially if it would be something major locally...or would KFMB-TV take over with its audio (assuming someone is actually sitting in the newsroom).

Incredible. I've heard college radio sound better than this!

Welcome to Automation radio!
And get used to it! This is the way radio has been here in West Texas for the past 10 years now!

And it will only get worse.

I run one of the most incredibly simple automation systems here, and have NEVER had problems like that!

I guess I should explain.

Just using automation is not the problem. The problem is that automation has been abused in a bigger industry wide scheme of minimal operation of broadcast production for maximum profit.

It's about being too cheap to even ensure that the automation is set to run properly. Like tad poles, the more you have, the greater chance that more than a few will be eaten.

Automation would have been great for the small mom and pop owner. But that's not what KFMB or Clear Channel are, is it?

G-Dawg, both companies you mentioned use the Prophet system......

KFMB-AM is such a good station but they also air the same 4-5 spots EVERY NIGHT. A lot of them are often out of date so you know they are freebees for the advertisers.

sdwulfdawg. Please. Everyone knows all radio ad is paid for. Radio stations don't just give-a-way spots! ;)

Actually I have worked at station that gave away ads - or rather gave extras to paid sponsors - because they had so much unsold space.

Thanks Bob!

Then once in a great while they run spots for Birmingham Press in Del Mar. They probably get a tradeout for printing KFMB's letterheads, cards, and envelopes.
