Did WHJY tweak things a little since BCN died?

I noticed on my commutes the past few days HJY was a little lighter on the old classic rock and was playing more current (90s and newer) harder stuff since BCN died.

Most likely coincidence or something, either that or I am dreaming...

All I noticed were a ton of commercials on every station last night. Satellite radio has really spoiled me. I shut off my radio in frustration. Maybe it's time that I do install Sirius/XM in my car. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful to you. If I had heard some actual music when I tuned in HJY I could have given you an opinion.

I doubt that HJY would react to BCN at all. There's a lot of homage being paid to BCN on the Boston board but it's the old BCN. I will say that in Providence if any station were to go away and get the same type of response from long time fans it would be HJY. I think if PRO-FM were to ever go away the station itself might try to hype up some sort of nostalgia event but I don't think the listeners would be all that caught up in it. Maybe WBRU would get a response also.

The teeny Boppers that listen to Pro-FM wouldn't skip a beat. They would just use their ipods more. There might be a few 13 year old girls who complain. The rest would go listen to Hot 106. All the personality at Pro-FM is virtually gone. The Jimmy Gray days were great. Not just because of Jimmy... but also because everyone else on the station was great too! Not anymore. There wouldn't be much to miss these days. No way would there be a reaction even close to what happened at WBCN.

Hmmmmm seeing as Pro-FM's core is much more than the the "Teeny Boppers" you say (high ratings in the 25-54 demo), I think there would be good outcry (case in point-the calls, outpouring both Rocky Allen and Mike Butts rec'd when they left) as there would be for Pro-AM, BRU, CTK, HJY and Lite 105 if the switched formats in this market. I think the stations that would see little to no outcry would be SNE, HJJ, B101, Hot 106 and any of the spanish stations as their formats have bounced around like a ping pong ball over the last 10 years and there are few longtime jocks on the station.

I bet you that people would freak if Hot 106 changed formats. They've got the most hardcore audience out there. There would be riots in the street and buildings would be burnt down. lol

I hope they tweak things in the afternon. It's painful to listen now. One person seems to be spiraling into madness and it sad to listen to, the other seems to have no grasp on the concept of radio altogether. When will they change it up. I just can't take it anymore....

The afternoon is terrible. They need Laurenti and Troll back on the air.

HJY is going to be at the Marshfield Fair. Have they done that before? I would imagine they are trying to appeal as a substitute for WBCN in Mass if not. HJY reception comes in pretty clear out to Plymouth, and in Boston from my experience; at least in the in car.

I don't really see where Charles has changed his act at all. I can only take him in small doses anyway and unless programming really feels people are tuning in for him and not the music they may stifle him a bit when Providence is a PPM market. One thing he doesn't have now is the kind of support like he had when Laurenti was there.

Charles rambles on about stuff, but I always find his take on things interesting. In my opinion...he should be working at a talk station. 20 years ago he was doing afternoon drive at WPRO. They should have kept him. The show was great!

I agree. The whole rambling "Stream of Consciousness" thing is what I've always liked best about him.

As for Charles doing talk radio? It's been such a long time since he did that WPRO show, that I can't remember why it came to an end. Was it his choice to leave, or thiers?

But, speaking in general terms, I'm not sure Charles would find "ultimate happiness" in talk radio either. Either he would find the constraints and formatting too binding......or he could just simply grow bored with it.

I don't know why the WPRO gig ended for Charles. He wasn't there that long. I have a feeling the show was to wild for them. He made the news one night when he did the show from a billboard. Can that be right? That is what I remember. Yeah.. maybe a little to wild for them. To bad though. That's pretty freaking funny. The guy had creativity. Leave it to Radio management to kill creativity though. It happens every day.

I enjoy Gio and Kim, Jes is ok but not compelling, Davy is ok at best and the night is spoon feed Ralphie radio show from 97BHT in bumpkindumpkin PA. I dont like voice tracked bird feed so I fire up the satalite radio at night.
