Any of your stations constantly move a program around, or repeatedly
pre-empt it, then restore it? I can think of a few out of Atlanta:
WSB picked up Lawrence Welk in the fall of '72. Until Ch. 2 went to ABC
and dropped Welk in January 1981 owing to sports conflicts, he had the
following times:
1972-73 season Sun 6:30 PM
1973-74 season Fri 8:30 PM until June, then Fri 8 PM for the summer
1974-75 season Sat 5 PM in the fall, Sun 6:30 PM the rest of the year
1975-76 season Sun 8 PM
1976-77 season Sat 5 PM in the fall, Sun 5 PM the rest of the year
1977-78 season Sat 5 PM in the fall, Fri 8 PM in the winter and spring, Sun 5 PM in the summer
1978-80 Sat 5 PM in the fall, Sun 5 PM the rest of the year
Fall 1980 Sun 5 PM
Dick Cavett was on and off WXIA repeatedly; I recall a period in 1971, then
again from the summer of '72 until he became a one-week-in-the-month part
of "Wide World Of Entertainment." Ted Turner carried him for a time in '71, IIRC.
WAGA sometimes carried the "CBS Late Movie" in-pattern; other times on a week-behind.
ABC News usually aired at 6:30 when WXIA had it, but there were some variations:
Dec. 1971-Sept. 1972 6 PM
Aug. 1975-Jan. 1976 6 PM
Sept. 1978-Aug. 1980 7 PM (moved to WSB Sept. 1, Ch. 2 has always aired it at 7)
"One Life To Live" started out on Ch. 17 on delay at 4 PM; Ch. 11 began airing it at 3:30
around the summer of 1969. In the fall of '72, the station decided to air movies at 3:30,
and "OLTL" was not carried in Atlanta until the summer of '73, then at 11 AM. It went back
to 3:30 in January 1975, moved again to 10:30 AM in January 1976 (bumped for "Mary Hartman,
Mary Hartman," then "Dark Shadows"), finally settling down in pattern at 2:30 in July 1976,
and 2 PM in January 1978. WXIA gave up "OLTL" to WSB on August 4, 1980, four weeks before
the switch; WSB had been trying to unload "Another World"; also that day NBC debuted "Texas,"
which would have made no sense to air on WSB for four weeks, so WXIA also gave them "General
Hospital" at 3.
