Dido "Here With Me" on KIFM?

I just saw that Here With Me by Dido was played on KIFM 98.1. I thought this wasn't programmed by BA? That isn't smooth jazz at all. It's more of a modern AC song than anything or AAA. Sad what smooth jazz radio has come to these days.

KIFM has always played a decent selection of instrumentals and watered them down with a lot
of the same pop vocals that the BA stations play. There are some strong "real NAC" vocals out there
but after 15 years of having to have your vocals validated by another format before you play them
people have lost the ability to find and recognize the good ones and even when they do they are scared
to play them. Because they aren't "familiar" How does a song become familiar..it gets played often enough
for listeners to recognize it. Catch 22.

This song has an atmospheric, synth sound and is a good fit for smooth jazz IMO. It certainly fits better than Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Celion Dion, or dare I say, Norah Jones.

I have to agree it is far from the typical BA, soft A/C vocal, and I think it works. Just heard it roll out on my station not too long ago (forgot I had it in the rotation ;D), and it was a nice change of pace. Veteran posters here have constantly lamented about the vocals dilemma. The challenge I have, with a NAC-heavy presentation, is dealing with a finite set of NAC vocals. There is only so much Michael Tomlinson and Lou Pardini I can play. So you do have to think out of the box and incorporate contemporary vocals from other genres if they are comprised of elements that make for smooth transitions with your overall programming strategy. That's why Dido works, as does Vanessa Daou, and Pop/Chill artists like Samantha James.
