"All I Want for Christmas Is You" by both Vince Vance & the Valiants, and Mariah Carey. It's Christmas time, folks! :D

"Joy to the World," traditional Christmas hymn, and the #1 hit by Three Dog Night. Mariah Carey did a medley of both (with the interesting title "Joy to the World/Joy to the World") on her first Christmas album, released back around 1994 or so.

Yeah, when two different songs having the same (or very similar) title are on the charts almost simultaneously (or at least within the same year), usually one of them must change or modify the title to avoid confusion with the other. Another example, this time from 1984:

"Jump," Van Halen
"Jump (for My Love)," the Pointer Sisters

I believe the intended title for the Pointer Sisters' song was also just "Jump," but they had to change it to avoid confusion with Van Halen's "Jump."

Barry Manilow changed "Brandy" to "Mandy" when he covered the tune, to avoid confusion with the unrelated Looking Glass hit of that name.

Words of Love - Buddy Holly
Words of Love - Mama Cass Elliott
