Digimod cards for Orban 8100

Hello Everybody.

A friend of mine, gave me a set of Digimod cards, to give them a try.
When he bought them ,their was no manual included.
So, my question is;

Does anyone has the manual of these cards?

I hope their is someone, who has it, and is willing to send me a (digital) copy

Thank you very much!

Dennis

Hey Paul

Thank you very much!!

@sgeirk:
Thanks to Broadcast, I now have the manual. So I know now how to set them up.
If it all works, I can upload a file to the FTP server wich carries the processing clips.

I will use:
Orban 222a stereo Enhancer
2 Texar Audio Prisms
orban 8100 with the digimod cards...

Any song requests?

I have lots of experience using that chain with the digimods, use a compellor before
Prisms, they have a very narrow sweet spot and the Compellor is necessary.
you may want to loose the Orban Stereo Enhancer

Why would you possibly leave out the 222a?
Just asking as i do not know of any instance that the 222a makes things worse :-\
I find that the enhancement set on 3 works like a charm!

I seem to remember the California digimod cards were modified for certain stations over your way,i presume to make them more aggressive for their format.
I remember reading this some time ago.

From what i have read, the digimod cards caused some artifacts in the hf region, caused by limiting,as i have never had a set of digimod cards,i cannot vouch for this personally.
It will be interesting to hear them in action, download the chains track and put it through the processing.

Hello Chris

I've tried the compellor infront of the Texar/8100 chain.
But to me, the chain sounds much more open without the compellor
So, if you don't mind, I put the compellor aside.

The 222a will join, because I love a sound with a bit of stereo enhancement. The 222a with it's simply clever design doesn' t make it worse in my opinion. It sounds quite charmin' if I may say so!

Hello Paul.

I think, the set I have for a test, are modified.
On card # 3 and 4, there's a little trimpot glueed at the bottom of each card.
The wiring leads to a little "add on" board.

Maybe this is the modd you mentioned. Maybe someone else knows

I will download the Tina Arena track, and I'll upload it with the digimods and RCF-2 card.

OK,

Give me a linear version of Sweet Jane from The Cowboy Junkies recorded to a linear :30 file.....starting at about :45 into the song.

Or, Josie from Steely Dan...linear.

I've heard the S in Sweet Jane duck the dickens out of many analog chains, back in the day.

I was going to mention that song as a "processing killer" track! In addition to the sibilance, the overall peak-to-average ratio of the song is so high that it exceeds the ReplayGain standard.

It's a pity i have not got the Cowboy Junkies track,i would like to try that.
I do have a Sweet sensation album that is quite testing though(come to think of it).

I have uploaded the track called Josie, directly from the Aja album, this is the 1999 mca remastered album,Parasound put that through your setup and lets hear what it sounds like,if Goran does not mind though!

I have put this track through my setup and have recorded it from my tuner, same as before,if you want to compare let me know and i will upload the recording.

Just remembered,i have the cd single of Expose's I'll never get over you and Seasons change, sibilance city! ;D

I uploaded "Sweet Jane" to the Processing Clips server, for those who want to give it a try. ;)

The song itself is quite interesting in that:
* it was recorded in a church with the band gathered around a single "Ambisonic" stereo microphone, direct to tape
* Margo Timmins sang through an amplified podium to prevent the band from drowning her out on the Ambisonic, giving her voice a slight "microphone held in front of a speaker" effect, as well as the extreme sibilance!
* it features an extra verse that was cut out of the radio/45 edit of the original Lou Reed / Velvet Underground version
* the song was released in 1988, but didn't become a hit until 1994, when it was included on the "Natural Born Killers" soundtrack album

Yes very interesting track!
I have blown the track to cdr then put through the processor.
I have recorded from my tuner with my standard settings(that i use for all my recordings),and a modified 8100a/xt2 setting,so 2 seperate recordings!

I will upload both recordings later on today,if required, but right now it is 3.56am here in UK! ::)

hello guys

Well, due to my busy schedule at work, it took some time for me to upload the tracks.

I used the Steely Dan track.
There are 3 tracks:

My setup:

222A
2 Texar Audio Prisms
8100A/1 wich also carries Card 0

Output of the 8100a/1 is connected to the Microgen iLog TS9050 Broadcast analyzer.
The output of the Microgen is connected to the Digi002Rack interface, and i recorded the tracks in Protools.

I've used the Digimod cards, the Cobalt blue and the RCF2 card.

Merry Xmas to all!

Regards

Dennis

The digimod cards softened the sound, which is what i expected, probably due to the high bands compression.

The cobalt blue card has that typical brutal sound,i had one but couldn't live with it,does not need much limiting, say 5 db max.

In my opinion, when ever i have used the prisms/rcf combo,i could never get them to sound as consistant on various audio tracks as the 8100a/xt2.
Also on certain tracks midrange distortion would show itself, but the 8100a/xt2 had more overall finesse.

What pre-emp are you using?

Paul.

A bit off topic but.................

I have heard that some people say that the old v1.2 software version in the 8200 optimod has a better agc than in the later v3 version,i do not know this myself, but can anyone confirm if there are any differences in the i/p agc between the two.

Paul,

I use 50us Pre-emp

A friend of mine, gave me a V1.2 module to give it a try. I can upload something if you like.
To me, i think the AGC works diffrent( maybe better) on V1.2 then on V3.
But I'm not sure..
Maybe the cooperation between de multiband and AGC is diffrent (better) on V1.2

Dennis

Interesting you say the same, when i got my 8200,it had the v1.2 module installed.
I replaced this for v3 and then unpotted the old 1.2 module.

I have since re fitted the v1.2 module, but it does not now work,so i am unable to compare the two. ::)

What i do remember is that when v3 was fitted, several seconds went by as the v3 module re programmed the control board before you could proceed.

Please let me know if you can get hold of the v1.2 module to buy.
