DIGITAL CONVERTER BOXES.

I just went and bought my DTV converter boxes. I just got them today and have not hooked them up yet, the question I have is
do the boxes enable you to watch the digital side channels of the main channel? For example will I be able to watch WWME and
WMEU on WCIU's 26.2 and 26.3 instead of watching them on channel 23 and channel 48? The person at Radio Shack was unable
to answer any of these questions for me. I do have digital cable on most of my TV's but, there are a couple of TV's that I use
once in a while that are not hooked up to the cable.

If I could receive these channels as well as NBC5 and ABC7 and their additional side channels on the convertor boxes I might
just decide to cancel my cable, as I don't watch that much TV, and most of the TV I watch is on free TV. Any answers would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
 
Yes. It shows the main plus all subchannels. So you'll see WWME-CA on 26-2, WMEU-CA on 26-3, plus all the rest.

Depending how far out you are from downtown, you can also receive MeTV's own digital channel, WWME-LD which displays on 23-1 (actually transmits on 39.1).

The low-power signal goes out very well from the Sears Tower. I'm 30 miles away from downtown, and I usually can receive the signal.

So you can receive MeTV on three channels: digital 23-1 and 26-2, and analog 23.

MeToo is only available on digital 26-3 and analog 48. But Weigel has a construction permit for low-power digital WMEU-LD which will display on 48-1 (actual 46.1).


Here are two questions, if anyone knows the answer: 1) Is Weigel eventually going to cancel MeTV / MeToo simulcast on 26-2 / 26-3 because each will have their own low-power digital channels?

Plus, I heard that Weigel is developing a new network with MGM named 'This TV' and there may not be enough bandwidth for everything on WCIU's sub-channels (26-6 is used for foreign-language FBT-TV, a simulcast with analog channel 33, WFBN-LP Rockford).

2) Low power analog stations are not required to go digital after February 2009. Is Weigel going to keep analog 23 and 48 on the air after the changeover?
 
I must be in a pocket of digtal desert 'cause I only get three digital channels in Chicago.

Anyway Weigel says once digital is finalized it will remove ME-TV and ME-Too off of WCIU's subchannels.
