Digital TV channels in RI

I bought an analog-to-digital converter for my analog tv set (with the coupon!). All of the stations I used to get, and some others, are there except for CW28 (WLWC). Does anyone know if this station is in fact transmitting a digital signal? I used to get it very clearly, more so than a few of the stations I'm still pulling in with the digital converter. Also; the stations I'm receiving are 4.1 6.1, 10.1, 10.2, 12.1, 36.1, 36.2, 44.1, 44.1, 44.3, 44.4, 64.1 & 64.2. 64.2 shows it is the Fox weather channel but there's no programming? Are there any other stations I might find with a little antenna tweaking?

Thanks

Strange that you're getting WBZ-DT and WGBX-DT from Boston. Do you get WPXQ-DT (ION) at all? I get it on occasion here in New Britain, CT, sometimes a bit better than WHPX-DT (ION) channel 34 (analog 26) of New London, CT.

On a side note, is that nasty line of storms this morning impacting what you picked up when you first got the box?

Looks like no Newton base tower signals are getting to RI. at this time?

I haven't been at home this morning to see how the channels are coming in. What numbered station would WPXQ-DT be?

Hey radiodizzy, what town do you live in? I bought a new HDTV and don't get any digital signals from Boston except for WSBK. This isn't a temporary situation because it's been the same way since I got my TV in November. I'm jealous that you are even picking up WBZ. I don't know weather to blame my tuner or if the digital signals coming from Boston are just weak.

Here in the northeast area of Rhode Island, I have had digital to analog converters for a while now and can receive the digital signals, in addition to chs. 6, 10, 12, 28, 36, 64, and 69, chs. 2, 4, 5, 7, 25, 38, 44, 56, 68 from the Boston area, chs, 27 and 66 from the Worcester area, as well as ch. 46. Ch. 62 from Lawrence comes in too, most of the time. You may have to either rotate your antenna for the stations to come in, or upgrade your antenna. Also try reprogramming channels via the setup menu in your converter so the converter locks in the additional stations. You may also want to check www.tvfool.com to see how clearly these channels can be recieved at your home address. I would expect that after the digital transition many stations will upgrade their power to give a better signal.

WPXQ-DT (ION) is channel 17, though your tuner may show it as "69-1".

A couple of notes to your list.

WLWC-DT (which is using the frequencies of UHF 22) is in fact on the air with 28-1. However the signal is "directional" (aiming the main lobe due North & West of the tower) and has "nulls" (areas of no signal) in the RI area. Their transmitting tower is in Eastern Freetown north of New Bedford.

Is surprises me that you get 4.1 and not 5.1. They are using relatively the same amount of power from the same antenna and nearly adjacent frequencies.

WNAC 64.2 is just a dead stream. It is used sometimes for March Madness basketball. We used to have the WX station on it but it is no longer being transmitted due to the FCC rules.

WPXQ maps to 69.1. The FCC requires that all broadcast stations map to their primary digital stream to their major analog channel. Only really old first generation equipment will map a station's digital channel incorrectly to their digital signal's channel.

It would help us to know what part of RI you are in...

Thanks for everyone's help and thoughts. I am in Providence/North Providence right near RIC. I'm not getting UPN 28 still, which is a surprise. Does anyone happen to know if their antenna is down? As I mentioned; before I added the digital converter it was one of my best channels received. Also not getting 69.1, but no real loss there. I used to only get it occassionally.

No, it's still on the air. I just checked it.

You're probably getting "interference" caused by "overload" from WSBE-DT which uses the frequencies of channel 21, and WLWC-DT uses the frequencies of channel 22.
