That does not surprise me, considering that for about a year now one could buy a 30" (or so) tube-type (as in picture tube) widescreen TV with a digital tuner for somewhere around $500. Now, there's a big variety at good prices that seem to be on pace to meeting the old analog price by the time the changeover takes place.
As it is, those tuners also were capable of receiving USDTV's subscription service which offered a limited number of famous-name 'cable' channels - about a dozen of them - at $19.99 a month. Hardly competitive with cable or the dishes. No wonder that company's getting out. It also doesn't help that there may not be as much excess bandwidth out there for them to buy up.
Now, if we can just get ol' Wally to install off-air antennas at their stores to prove one can receive local signals on these newer TVs. Go on, Wally. I challenge you.
