Chuck..get a console..even a small Mackie would be good. We use those neat little blue Yamaha mixers with effects banks in Atlanta..They are bulletproof and sound great. MUCH easier to do multitracking and listen to playback for inserting lines..effect etc. Output of mic-pre, CD player, Etc..etc.everything into your console..Feed the Echo input with program out..and assign a bus to the Echo output so you can hear it through the console phones....you can use the studio monitor level and listen on the monitors when you need to mix..just a lot easier. Even if you are worried about any extra analog stuff (reaad: noise)..you can always get a USB console..I think Yamaha makes one so does Alesis..as long as you don't use the mic preamps onboard you will be fine..and they aren't real expensive either.
