>"NAB prez/CEO David Rehr declares the NAB is “going on the offensive” to promote the medium every way it can (print, PSA campaigns, new initiatives). The organization is responding to any and all things it deems are wrongly put out in the media about radio.

Rehr’s third point of concentrated effort centered on his belief that the NAB needs to lead in the area of “re-building enthusiasm” for radio. He also implored the radio industry to embrace technology.

LOVE the headline! :D

A mere ten months into his tenure as the president and CEO of the National Assn. of Broadcasters (NAB), former self-described “beer guy” David Rehr has come to Dallas with a mission to spread what he’s calling the “reinvention and redefining of radio.”

A perfect fit at the NAB (National Association of Booze). :p

A few of you might even get the irony in my post...

I don't get it.

NAB has a a bar in practically every room...

Hence the nickname...

They're not bars, they're "hospitality suites"!

;)

You mean, the industry people behind IBOC, are nothing but a bunch of freeloading drunks?

No, the industry suits behind the RADIO industry are nothing but a bunch of freeloading drunks.

:)

Sounds like a distinction without a difference to me.

Just exactly who is this cabal of drunks forcing IBOC on the bandwidth?

Oh, it's the same cartel of drunks who just decided satellite radio just might be a threat after all.

Got it.

Hmmm. Seems like you like to deal with absolutes!

I like chicken -> Possum tastes like chicken -> I like possum!

First of all, while the NAB supports HD, they aren't "behind" HD. There are stations who support HD who aren't NAB members, and there are NAB memebers who don't support HD.

Generalizations are a bad thing...

Yeah, but if a so-called "possum" has a beak, feathers and drumsticks, and tastes like chicken...

....it's a chicken.

Maybe we should just refer to the whole group as the NABdrunkIBOCcartel?

Speaking of stewed radio execs, how come these cocks are not trooping into an Ibiquity hospitality suite this year?

So, guilt by association then?

As for why iBiquity doesn't have a booth...you'll need to ask them. Anything else would be pure speculation.

Personally I think they don't want to demonstrate the tinny AM codec anymore.

There may be some truth to that!

;)

---->So, guilt by association then?

Since both groups are the same people, there is no guilt by association. Just plain, simple guilt (your term, not mine).

---->As for why iBiquity doesn't have a booth...you'll need to ask them. Anything else would be pure speculation.

God forbid there be speculation about radio, on the internet.

Wonder what the NABdrunkIBOCcartel speculates about?

But they're NOT any more the same as, say, the Society of Broadcast Engineers, and iBiquity. Sure they're related...they're all part of the same industry!

As for speculation, that's why my motto is: "Half of what you hear is untrue, and the other half should be verified." It's a long, awkward, wordy motto, but it's true!

;)

Look at the HDRadio sponsors, and tell me with a straight face that isn't the radio broadcasting industry.

Who else would you expect the sponsors to be? Cell phone companies?

Hey, I'm not the one trying to establish that they are separate parties, you are.

You seem to be proving my case, here: HD Radio = the corporate radio giants, acting together to further their corporate interests.

Which is, by the way, the textbook definition of a cartel.

We've gone through this before. They fit SOME of the definition, but not ALL. Therefore they are NOT a Cartel, any more than any other trade group is a Cartel.

cartel |kär?tel| noun an association of manufacturers or suppliers with the purpose of maintaining prices at a high level and restricting competition : the Colombian drug cartels. • chiefly historical a coalition or cooperative arrangement between political parties intended to promote a mutual interest.

There is still the big test, which includes controlling prices and restricting competition. They haven't passed that, since anyone is free to compete with IBOC, and anyone can charge whatever they want for the radios.
