Directional X-Band Stations

When X-banders first hit the air, they were non-directional 10kw-day, 1kw-night (There may have been some directional stations on the coast; I don't know.)

Now, with the growth of the X-Band, have there been any stations built with directional antennas just for the purpose of protecting other stations?

KFXY in Enid, OK is surprisingly another. I thought all such stations had to not exceed the 10/1 U1 equivalent inverse field toward the Canadian and Mexican border, as the coastal directional ones probably used to show equivalent treaty compliance. I didn't look at the exhibits closely. Perhaps it is far enough from the borders, but the maxima are north and south. It's a broadside two tower pattern.

KHPY in Moreno Valley, CA (Southern Caifornia) is a 3-tower directional day & night with 10 kw day and 9 kw at night.

CHHA 1610 Toronto is now directional at night to protect CJWI Montreal. Higher power but directed away from Montreal.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't 1700 XEPE go directional at night and stay at 10 kw?

XEPE and KHPY are both directional at night sending more signal out towards the Pacific. Both stations can be heard at night in Hawaii.

In east San Diego county, signal readings show XEPE never changes patterns. Expected 7-9db drop does
not occur at sunset, or any time. Friend in Tucson verifies their non-compliance.

That's because Mexican regulations define sunset as being 7 PM local time every day of the year. They also define sunrise as 6 AM, all year long.

Could you check some evening at 7 PM and see if there is a drop in field strength?

That explains why I have been hearing them lately here in SW Ohio. They I.D. in english, and when I have heard them, they were in spanish. Their new pattern and power, should make CHHA a much more likely recepiton for western NA DXers.

In Vegas for CES, and monitored 1630 & 1700 both sunrise & sunset. Noticable increase for 1630 at
sunrise, matched 1700. Considerable drop for 1630, no change for 1700 at, and after sunset. In fact,
1700 was stronger than KNX and KFI most of the night.
