DIRECTV FREES UP MORE CHANNELS

Besides STARZ begining Sunday they are freeing up Disney Junior and a free preview of MLB extra innings.

From Directv on Facebook.........
"It’s definitely been an undeservedly chaotic week for you. But we wanted to let you know we have been meeting several times daily with Viacom to bring back its most popular channels as soon as we can. We had more conversations today, and continue to thank you for your patience.

We don’t anticipate this lasting too much longer, but in the meantime, we just announced today that we’re adding one of the more sought after new family channels – Disney Junior – for tomorrow morning. You don’t need to do anything but have your kids in front of channel 289, where they can continue to see Disney favorites permanently. If your idea of a great weekend is less about children's programs and more about seeing the Boys of Summer hook it up, then we’re also opening up a free preview of MLB Extra Innings for all of our customers too. You can see action from every Major League Baseball diamond between now and July 19 on the 30 more channels between 719-749. That’ll include top weekend games like the Angels @ Yankees, Red Sox @ Rays, Cardinals @ Reds, Nationals @ Marlins and Mets @ Nationals, Giants @ Braves later in the week.

Rest assured, while you’re kicking back, we’ll still be hard at it, trying to make sure to get Viacom to reconnect you to the channels you most want. That’s not your business; it’s ours. And we mean to do it. Thanks again for your patience."

That's actually not true. MLB is offering Extra Innings free to anyone right now. Nothing special for DirecTV.

I just called in to see if I could get any perks for supporting the company and they offered me $20 off for 12 months, an additional $10 off for 3 months and free Starz for 6 months. They are definitely trying to their hardest to keep customers with those types of offers!

My idea of a great weekend is anything but being stuck in front of the tube. (or flat screen now)

Thank goodness I ditched my television a few years ago. This kind of artificial drama is really, really tiring.

Free CineMax?

CSR seemed to have a lot of offers available in regards of free/reduced price movie channels and sports packages. I've heard that some people have received NFL Sunday Ticket for free so really YMMV.

Could care less if MTV-VHI, etc ever return. Having wasted a few hours of my life watching this stuff, it's nothing but high drama involving highly untalented people. Same goes for all these Real Housewives shows.

Save the bandwidth.

I sometimes wonder why the satellite and Cable TV companies don't just buy all the channels, and produce their own programming.

Anybody know of a good reason why they don't? ;)

Money. It's cheaper to be in the transmission business than the content business. Same thing with telecom.

Although Comcast now owns NBC Universal. And Liberty Media has made some investments in content.

Actually, cable/satellite providers are increasingly more interested in being on the content side of the industry. Just look at all the regional sports networks that cable companies own. They own those sports rights, won't be at risk of a carriage drop of valuable sports content, won't have to pay an additional fee to carry that content, make money off that content from carriage fees from other providers and are able to control ad revenues from that content.

In fact, if you look back to before the NBComcast merger, Comcast had already operated a few of their own channels- many Comcast Sports Net channels, Versus (now NBCSN), E!, Style, G4 and Golf Channel.
