I know this is really not ther place for this question, but I don't know where else to ask it.I've got an original Sony DirecTV dish with a single output LNB up north at at a trailer.When I re-installed it for this season, it's only receiving the even numbered transponders even though the proper voltages are present on the feedline at the LNB to switch polarities when calling for odd or even number transponders.While I've got another LNB to swap out, I'd like to know if someone can explain how the LNB can fail to make the polarity switch. Since I don't believe it's a mechanical process, I'd think the LNB would either be good or totally dead.Any thoughts?------------------- Bill

Not a broadcast engineering question, really, but I'll tackle it as a former DTV dealer. It's a common failure mode for these LNB's. The switching is electronic, not mechanical, and electronic components (diodes, transistors) fail selectively and for various reasons, including nearby lightning strikes.
Yep i second that, same thing happens with Dish Network LNB, i'm a certified installer of both. :
(more like certified drunken binging in vegas on the company dollar ;D ) Consumer c-band LNBs & semi-pro/near-broadcast-quality ku-band LNBs do have mechanical polorization though, which can be a real pain in the butt always at the worst times. Ahh, the days of old...If you wanted to install a dish yourself back then, in the winter up north, you could plan on renting a pneumatic jackhammer for the better part of a day. been there... here's some nostalgia for yall http://www.skyvision.com/ heheh, i remember when they were just a backroom in a warehouse.
