DIRECTV STRIKES OUT ON THURSDAY

1) subscriber growth for nearly everything is slow (there's a recession going on if you haven't noticed)

2) nearly any large company is probably engaged in at least 10 or 12 lawsuits at any given time I would think

3) if "Damages" was worth talking about it would not be on the Audience network just for DirecTV subscribers

They musta been lookin' like thru some frosty haze when they wrote the article then.

Sorry zap2it, FreddyE1977 thinks you are liars.

I am not surprised. It would appear that less and less people are subscribing to satellite TV. About 5 or 6 years ago, there were neighborhoods and entire communities where almost every other house had a satellite dish. This was before HD was popular, and even before digital cable was popular, and most of the major broadcast networks and even popular cable networks were still in analog on most cable systems. Then a few years later, HD got more and more popular, and I believe that to this day, DirecTV STILL doesn't carry most locals in HD, and I don't think they carry ANY digital subchannels.

Since then, services like Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-Verse have taken over. I know that in many neighborhoods, these are what's popular. I'm sure there are several communities where FiOS and U-Verse have outsold cable.

People won't watch the show because of the thousands of ads for the show, which they play every hour on every DIRECTV channel. They do enough justice to encourage tuneouts.

"It would appear that fewer and fewer people are subscribing to pay-to-view satellite TV."

Fixed.

Around my area most people seem to be dumping the pay packages and using over the air ATSC. I have been seeing a LOT of mini-dishes without LNBs around Vancouver lately, and many new rooftop aerials going up. Doesn't surprise me, since the pay-satellite dupoply is corrupt, and the local Com¢rap system sucks.

The only fibre-optic lines coming from the local Centuryqwest COs, that I am aware of, are the trunk mains connecting them to the big tandem office in Portland (part of the long distance system--used to be AT&T Long Lines back in Ma Bell's day.) They don't have U-Verse systems in this area yet, if they ever will.
