I keep seeing tv ads comparing Dish to Direct and honestly whats the difference besides all the HD? Don't both providers have trouble during storms and heavy rain? I have Comcast and have no complaints except maybe the pricing, but I have all the channels I watch and love. I viewed the channel lineup for both Dish and Direct and it seems Dish lacks plenty of channels.

DIRECTV vs. DISH

I have had Dish for who knows how long and unless it is storming like the end of the world is coming I hardly ever lose my signa;... As long as you keep the dish tight so it does not get knocked out of allignment you are pretty much good to go. I always chuckle when I see cable ads claiming that you can't watch Satellite TV when it rains... It is funny that when we have big storms here where I live chances are gonna be pretty good that you will see Comcast trucks on the road getting people's cable back up while I am happy as a camper with my Dish... DISH and DIRECT TV have too many all Infomercial/Shopping Services. And Direct TV has too may religious channels. You know how many 24 hour infomercial channels I have on Comcast? None. My parents in Southington have COX and 4 all infomercial channels - Digital Channel 72 Leased Access, Digital Channel 73 WSAH/43, Digital Channel 74 Leased Access, and Digital Channel 75 WSAH/43. Yes. WSAH is on Both 73 and 75. Plus Channel 2 COX Sports Television is infomercials most of the day. Channel 74 sometimes shows The Coin Vault Shopping Network (which used to air on the now defunct Shop-at-Home Network) and The Liquidation Channel. (A Reverse Auction Shopping Network).

Before I had sat I had cable and got rid of it because it failed too often. Way more than either of the sat services. Probably depends on your local company more than anything else.
The last time I looked both DirecTV and DISH were somewhat equal in their basic offerings but did differ when it came to sports, movie-on-demand and HD channels. Both services were too expensive for what I watched (about 5 channels regularly) so I dumped them all. Other than the occasional sports show (which I can usually receive over the Internet) I don't miss them.
One huge irritant for me was the ongoing squabble between DirecTV and Versus (which carried the NHL). I see now that equally irritating fights exist with Disney and other services as well. I doubt I'll do business with either sat company again.
You are correct... Dish Network is in a fight with Disney over channels thus Dish having to remove some of the Disney HD channels IE ABC Family and ESPN News and such... Saw on Multi Channel News that TWC and Disney are also in a contract dispute... CC1

Storm on Thursday, PECO, the local power company had a wire burn through fiber blocks from the Comcast headend and PECO did not cut power on their downed pwer line until almost Noon of Saturday. Top people at Comcast Tower in Philly were calling top PECO people at PECO bldg. in Philly. As soon a the power wire was killed, Comcast was restringing fiber and splicing all the fiber lines in 2 spots. This fiber outage caused a outage to multiple townships out on Philly's Main Line. Almost 12 hours later, I had my Xfinity back. Most people in my neighborhood have FiOS now. I guess if the PECO wire had chosen to take out a Verizon fiber wire near the switching station, I'd have able and the FiOS customers wouldn't. DirecTv only goes out if it is pouring like you need the ark soon.
DirecTv also worked plugged into the generator. Was watching Nick Jr with the little ones because I had no work and they had no daycare due to power outages that Friday.

By the way, DirecTV has yet to give a good reason why they dropped XM (Sirius/XM) music channels for "Sonic Tap," other than their excuse "well, these new channels have no interruptions." Dish still carries Sirius/XM, plus a number of no-DJ music-only channels; DirecTV could have done the same.

I just have a Sirius radio sitting on top of one of the DirecTv boxes. Sirius-XM sounded so much better coming out of the DirecTv box through a digital signal right into my stereo than it does through one of their own radios.

Unfortunately, while I did have DirecTV for 3 years, I found out that DirecTV recieved an F rating from the BBB because I had problems with them due to the fact that they do not carry at the time Nick GAS and a couple of my other networks especially during bad wether. When I cancelled the service in early 2004, I got a unauthorized charge from DirecTV for $480 and that they lied to me when they would issue me a refund. That is why I filed a complaint with the BBB and the state attorney general's office. I feel that Dish Network has more choices and they do not jack up my prices after only a year or so. I've been a good customer for over 6 years now and I'm happy that they carry the music channels. I hate that they had lied to me about the way that they have $29.99, but in fact that they charge $65 Anyway's here's the proof that DirecTV got the rating it deserved.

I also like to add that Dish Network just recently picked up some new markets for local channels, Eureka, CA, Yuma, AZ and Bend, OR. I checked DirecTV and it's lagging behind in it's local channel package, tsk, tsk, tsk...

DirecTV definitely. I have to have Dish at the moment, and really miss DTV. Their service was much better and didn't go out as much.
