Dirictv vs Viacom getting very UGLY

That's my set-up; I have TV service with DirecTV (and I still have another year to go on my agreement), and internet service with Time Warner. My main motivation with staying with DirecTV, other than not wanting to pay a termination fee...

Of course this would be the perfect time to drop DirecTV as they no longer are carrying the channels for which you signed up for - I bet it would be considered a breach of contract no matter if it wasn't caused directly by them. I bet you'd have a good legal standing if you called them and cancelled under those terms and didn't cave to take anything from their retention department.

You raise a good point...I've been actually considering at least downgrading my programming package, because there's a bunch of channels I don't regularly watch. Beside my major locals, I probably view 25-35 channels on no less than a semi-regular basis, and because of the battle with Viacom, that number is a bit less now. I have rebates on my service from when I signed-up last year, and I'm currently saving $52 a month on my bill. The customer service rep I spoke to last week (just a day before the Viacom removal) told me even if I downgrade my package, I would lose my rebates.

At the very LEAST get a reduction on your bill...it's standard practice now in such disputes that the carrier will credit you $$$ if you call and ask for it. When Dish cut off our TV station for 3 months, we bought ads on local radio stations giving out the phone number Dish customers could call to get a reduction. Dish caved soon after.
