Disapointed

Bought a used truck several months ago and decided to have the sat radio turned on. I've heard it (possibly XM) in other cars and it sounded OK. but Sirus sound awful. some channels, especially the talk channels sound as bad as low bitrate cellphone audio. digital artifacts, swishy gargly audio. Even the music channels sound like low bitrate Mp3 or internet streams. Even youtube videos have better audio than what I've heard on sirius. As a matter of fact. The local 1000 watt AM oldies station in my town actually sounds better than the 60's channel on sirius. It sounds like listening to a bad mp3 file at the end of a water hose. Unfortunatly, I should have done my homework before sigining up. I'm locked in for a year. With a one year subscription you get a month for free. but I'm still out 12.95 a month for one year.

What brand of truck is it? I have a 2012 GT500 with Sirius and the sound seems OK to me. My father has a Chevy Impala with XM and it also sounds good. In my Explorer I use a Sirius Sportster with the "strong" FM modulator on a clear frequency and it sounds OK. Not quite as good as the built-in but not as bad as you describe your experience.

Its a 2007 dodge truck. so its an older model Sirius only radio. for some reason the radio does not show the name of the song title or even the name of the station. Only the channel number is displayed. As far as the audio. The channels that play current hits sound OK, but some of the more obscure album oriented channels sound like low bitrate. The talk stations sound terrible. The christmas channel 147 isn't even "radio" quality. It sounds like low bitrate internet audio. They play a lot of old songs that were originally in 78rpm, but they sound bad even on the new songs. Not even in stereo. The Christmas channel on 76, which normally plays classical sounds fine. I also noticed that my radio skips a lot of channels that looks like I should be getting according the the station lists on their website. channel 77 through 85 are missing. I don't remember what is on those channels, it may be special feeds or talk, but I do know Radio Disney is somewhere around 79. Most of the missing channels may be premium channels or stuff I rarely listen to, but if I paid for it I would at least like to hear it. It could be channels from XM radio that won't pick up on my Sirius, But since the merger it looks like it would have most of the same channels on both. I just can't figure out why the Sirius channel listings have channels supposedly in the clear that I can't get.

That's too bad. The only thing I can think of would be to see if you can transfer your current subscription to a different radio. Ebay still has the old Sirius Sportsters with the strong FM modulator for sale.

My advice would be to get a better aftermarket radio. I have a JVC in my 2000 Fort Ranger with a seperate satellite radio plugged into the aux input. It sounds a lot better than anything factory I've heard.
