DISCOVERY TO LAUNCH VELOCITY NEWTWORK FOR UPSCALE MEN

from tvbythenumbers.com

Must be nice to have a bunch of weak channels sitting around that you can always rename and
restart. In quarter IV of 2011 Discovery will rebrand HD Theater and call it Velocity. The current
channel is in 40 million homes (never heard of it) and is very similar to the new channel which
targets upscale males.

It will feature more than 400 premiere hours of new and returning series and specials showcasing
the best of the automotive, sports and leisure, adventure, and travel genres. Hey, don't we already
have about 20 of those already? What makes Discovery think they can do any better than what is
already being done? I can just see it now, an upscale male in a nice tie working on his Harley.
An upscale man climbing a rock wall in a nice suite. Good times.

Bright House has HD Theater in its digital TV service for those with HD receivers -- the show generally featured HD-worthy documentaries and travelogues.

Of course, as the channel will be revamped, will they also be launching an SD version of Velocity, even though HD Theater was (obviously) HD only, and most of Discovery's other channels are both in SD and HD?

You're watching Velocity.

If Obama wants to raise your taxes, you've come to the right place!

;D

Maybe they can merge with Denver's regional sports network... Altitude. ::)

I have the Latin version of HD Theater, which lacks commercials. It's one of my favorite channels, I wish they don't mess with our version.

Wasn't the US version commercial-free at one time?

*is reminded of the last effort at this market, InDemand's MOJO* This will fail in a few years.

MOJO from InDemand was odd. At the time, Cox had few cable channels, so it was used as the Diamondbacks/Suns/Coyotes HD channel. When it closed, it simply became an FSN HD part time channel.

It is an HD only channel. I was one of the 1st cable HD channels. It would show all differerent shows from all of the Discovery network channels in HD before many of the Discovery network channels got their own HD simulcast channels.

This is good news. We can always use another outlet for Law & Order reruns.
Or COPS or CSI or UFC or.....

Well you get it.....

Cheers :D

Doubtful since Altitude was only meant to be an RSO that's an alternative to FSN (Now called that awful ROOT Sports name which still has the old Fox Sports graphics & IS NOT letterboxed like other FSN outlets (Or even Sun Sports for that matter!) is)

Cheers :D
