Discuss the latest 12 + ratings June '06

We can't quote actual numbers here but go to radioandrecords.com and look up Boston to see 'em.

WBZ up; WEEI up, no doubt due to Sox fever...
'RKO and 'TKK about the same (meaning no real up or down movement for each)
Some rimshotters from NH and Prov./Taunton make it in: WFNQ Nashua, WZID Manchester, WSNE and WWBB
from Prov. area

WTTT and the Air America signals, no-shows. Which means just as many people don't care about Hannity as don't care about Schulz, I guess.

Mike gets its highest rating ever, IIRC.

'KLB about the same. How will they do at 102.5?

'CRB steadly moves up...just as they're about to disappear (unless 99.5 runs classical for awhile after the
switch)

'BCN slightly up...O&A picking up ground lost after Roth debacle?

WNSH going 50,000 watts will be interesting. Raccoon & Count could be the new Hannity & Colmes! Only I'm prettier than Alan Colmes.

Will WNSH going 50 thou have any influence on the almighty book?

ha! We'll have to see. by the way coming back from the Cape tonight someone had a powerful pirate going on 1580 and it was still going up to the North Shore--hope it won't impede on NSH's signal (prob. not...)

It looks like Mike is started to get ZLX listeners. What ever happened to that station? Seems light a steady decline over the past couple of years with no major changes ???

It looks like it took less than a year for an AM signal that served a niche format well to become totally useless,WTG ESPN !

Over the past couple of years WROR has also gone up (a bit), as WZLX has gone down some.

For the second 'Trends in a row, Harvard University's quirky WHRB made an appearance. This time, the Orgy(tm) period was being broadcast. Won'tbe long before the ad agencies catch on and you start hearing national spots on 95.3 (GEICO anyone? Gold Bond Medicated Powder?).

Well, I doubt that GEICO will be putting ads on WHRB, or any other Boston-area station, since Massachusetts drivers can't get GEICO, or most other national insurance carriers. Of course this could all change with the whole auto insurance legislation. So instead of hearing GEICO spots, WHRB will be airing the opinions of New Jersey drivers about their auto insurance coverages.

The proposed 50 kW WNSH is unfortunately extremely directional, pointed away from Boston and out to sea. It will definitely be a big improvement all over the North Shore and it should cover the metro-north suburbs north of the Mystic River, and it will get them inland toward the Merrimack Valley, but the signal in Boston proper and to the metro-west and metro-south of the city will be weak if even listenable at all (except for right along the South Shore coast and Cape Cod may be fair).

The signal will bomb up the New England coast throughout coastal New Hampshire and Maine, and it will probably be loud and clear throughout the Canadian Maritimes, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, etc... it may even be a catch across the water up to Greenland.

The night power will still be the current 85 watts.

Here's Radio-Locator's predicted coverage map for the 50 kW WNSH

what about WBUR ?Re: Discuss the latest 12 + ratings June '06

Raccoon,

how do we get the word out about the powerful performance of WBUR? I know you like to brag about how well the "Right" leaning talk stations do, but since WBUR isn't posted in the "trends" because of its non-commercial status, it doesn't mean it isn't getting ratings. Didn't WBUR trounce Howie and 96.9? What is it 25-54's?

It seems the Progressives like intelligent talk and don't buy into the loud Todd feinburg types. But if WBUR did get huge numbers, maybe WCRB should go "Intelligent Progressive Talk: IPT" Haven't seen the book but I bet they were a monster this time around (he says slyly having not SEEN the book but, ahem, knowing ...

I don't have the lists here at home. I'll have to wait until next time I'm at work later this week. And, can't post specific numbers. They're copyrighted.

Despite the lack of availability of Geico auto insurance in Mass, their spots are heard on numerous stations in the Bay State. They're a frequent advertiser on WXKS-AM/WKOX (only the latter gets solidly into another state).

liberals do like conservative talk radio - its about 45% of the audience according to Talkers.

and guess what - Howie does well with liberals, and Feinburg must too, because trends indicate he's the second best rated person on WRKO.

WBUR gets much bigger numbers. WRKO should just hire the WBUR line-up and be done with it.

Feinburg gets too much support from WRKO. Saying he's the "2nd best" when they have one local on-air personality with any ratings at all is like saying Philles pitcher Brett Myers is a nice guy except for the wife beating.

Feinburg has gotten so much support on RKO from the powers that be - probably because he is inexpensive (and you know how Entercom is alleged to be afraid of paying their "talent", such as it is) - and who is the
competition? John Depetro and a Scott Allen Miller with his hands tied behind his back?

Scott Allen Miller Blog
http://iamscotto.blogspot.com/

Put Miller on in the evening and Feinburg wouldn't last a day. Too much support for too little talent.
Another political hire. Revolting. Y'know, at least Virgin Boy was somewhat entertaining despite his
horrifying party atmosphere on his show when the bombs first dropped in Iraq. Feinburg is dull,
Depetro is out of his league, and el Rushbo is going to Sing Sing unless he can sing about Scooter Libby.

RKO is a wreck. Carr is stale, Limbaugh might be facing a real crisis, and they totally wasted Scott Allen
Miller with the dumb morning show idea modeled after WBZ. It's time they cleaned house and came in with some real personality. Don't expect it to happen anytime soon.

RKO should hire WBUR. RKO should copy WBUR's format. Just because it is allegedly "non-commercial" doesn't mean it doesn't have a HUGE audience. Repeat after me: if WRKO wants real numbers, copy WBUR's format.

Feinburg? Please. What a horrible excuse for an on-air personality. I swear to God I would rather listen to you-know-who ramble on about bisexual women and confusing Otis Redding for Mick Jagger (at least you can chuckle that someone
on the air is SO clueless) than have to listen to Whineburg.

>>RKO is a wreck.

They'll be much better next year when they're home of the 2006 World Champion Boston Red Sox.

>>Carr is stale

Oh, I'm sure his listeners would prefer the show that Laura Ingraham refers to as "Stale Air With
Terry Gross-Me-Out" :)

>>how do we get the word out about the powerful performance of WBUR?

Why not get the FCC to repeal the non-commercial rules? In Canada there are stations that are mostly public/
non-commercial but they do get to run a few minutes of commercials per hour (a jazz station in Toronto
that I've heard via tape, for example)...WBUR presents All Things Considered, right after this message
from Ford.

Re: Discuss the latest 12 + ratings June '06 (WBUR specific)

WBUR's got a better signal than WRKO does, and one-tenth the sponsorship load. Why would anyone make that jump?? ;D

Seriously, though...I've had a smidge of access to some of the specific numbers and WBUR is laying waste to every other station in the 25-54 demographic. Practically across the board at all times of the day. The only real competition they have is WBZ during drive times and WEEI during the Sox games...but WBUR doesn't care much about after 7pm so Sox games aren't much "competition" in their eyes. You should see WBUR's numbers on Saturday from early morning to mid afternoon, too...I think more than half the city's listeners are tuned to 90.9 then.

What I don't know is how the Cape Cod AM signal factors in to those numbers. The Cape is a separate market but a lot of WBUR listeners are pretty well-off and have summer homes on the Cape, so I have to think 1240AM comes in real handy on the summers.

Anybody know if Chris Lydon's Open Source is making a dent in the 7-8pm timeslot?

I haven't seen the Cape market non-comm ratings, but the WBUR-AM signal is not a factor in the Boston ratings. It's all the FM. The AM station is just to fill areas on the Cape and Islands where the FM may not come in (well).

The "talent" such as it is on WRKO commits the worst sin of Talk Radio as Jerry Williams would say - They are "boring". Yes, boring and worse predictable. You know what Depetro is going to say before he says it as well howie carr and sadly scott allen miller who sold out months ago to the republicrat play book.
would rather listen to scratching on a blackboard.
