Dish, Big Ten Network in dispute

Millions of Dish Network customers turned on their TVs yesterday morning in preparation for the much-anticipated Eastern Michigan at Minnesota game yesterday to find that Dish had entered yet another payment dispute, and Big Ten Network (now referred to only as "BTN") was no longer available to them.

Dish says that BTN wants a 150% fee increase; BTN says that all of their recent renewals have been at an (unspecified) rate.

Oh, and I made up the part about anyone actually caring about Eastern Michigan at Minnesota.

That's OK. Those of us in OTAland had to watch Alabama vs Little Sisters of the Poor.

Programming by total idiots! Thankx C(BS).

Speaking of Dish, anything new with the Dish vs. AMC/IFC situation? It's been several weeks since they were pulled, and both still have promos saying "available on cable and satellite, NOT ON DISH."

I heard that AMC Networks is giving its advertisers a lot of "make-good" spots because of the Dish dispute. Their stock hasn't been hit hard though, but it's got to be giving their account executives heartburn.

Maybe instead of throwing jabs at Dish whenever they can, AMC should work at a solution to this dispute.

Can't blame them for the Hawgs stinking up the joint. Then again, that's the risk they take when they're too conservative in their scheduling (only caring about games involving Alabama, LSU, Florida or Georgia). Even if they stink it up it would have been nice for the network to show how A&M would fare in the SEC, being from Texas and all.

In the grand scheme of cable only sports, BTN really is a non-factor. The heyday of the B1G has long passed & with teams like Minnesota, Indiana & (can't touch that) Penn St, I mean, who is really watching?

The Big Ten has always been about 2-3 teams max. Every decade Northwestern jumps up and surprises someone but it's usually UM, OSU and MSU.
