Dish Network Puts Out Fuse

The MSG Media-operated (formerly Cablevision) music channel Fuse has been replaced with Palladia, a service of MTV Network that offers music programming in HD.

It's no big loss. I saw FUSE when I was staying at my Mom's the other day. They showed Lady Gaga for 8 hours straight (no pun-intended) from 11AM-7PM and then they repeated the whole thing 7PM-3AM. (Music videos and interviews with her).

I actually enjoy the Fuse network, but it seems that lately they've been spending their time showing old movies from the '80's and specials on Eminem and Lady Gaga more often than music related programming.

At least Gaga and Eminem are music-oriented. Take that away, and you effectively have a CMT clone.

By the way, the other day, MTV was airing "American Pie." Whatever...

Wasn't Fuse once a channel dedicated to rock music, but now is dedicated to hit music like MTV Hits?

They were much more palatable as MMUSA (no pun intended). Sure, Fuse plays music (that's more than MTV can say these days), but the music they choose to play doesn't appeal to me (I don't care for today's pop/hip-hop/"screamo"). They have already started a Facebook campaign to get back on Dish (good luck). Palladia is more enjoyable, but they are also geared toward an older audience.

Now, only if VH1 Classic could play more videos and concerts with less movies and "Behind The Music"...

The most music out of the regular cable Viacom music networks is CMT. They even have shows for music such as the Singing Bee and most times I turn their playing country music. Sure they have some movies.

Is BET still considered a music network of Viacom? As I remember they used to play hip hop videos all day.

BET was/is more a general variety channel targeting African American audiences that happened to play music videos. I remembered they used to play videos a lot on the weekends, but they had other programming. Atleast that was my impression.

BET Networks belongs to Viacom, but in the hierarchy, it's actually separate, and not part of MTV Networks. Perhaps it hasn't merged into MTV Networks, because a small percentage of ownership may be different. Not sure.

I remember when ever a song had BET or MTV in the song lyrics they would be edited out on which network it was being showed on. But if the song said the network name by the same network playing the video it wasn't edited out.

BET was famous for music-intensive shows like "Rap City" and "106th and Park" (are those still on the air?) that aired every afternoon. All day long on Sunday, BET mostly airs gospel-oriented programming, and I believe this is still the case, at least until this past Sunday with the "BET Awards" that evening...
