DISH NETWORK SET TO DROP ABC 7 FT. MYERS, FL.

This is blackmail, call the station and Dish Network tell them you don't give a rats ass about ABC7 and you are not going to pay another dime for television. Put a stop to it once and for all, they are lucky Dish Network and the cable companies give them distribution and should be thankful. Let them try to survive on their crappy over the air DTV signal. Call their bluff or get used to this crap.

Kudos to the station. Dish will pay because they cant survive without the local channels. I hope these local stations stand up to the satellite companies and get their fair share.

It's actually worse. WBBH operates WZVN via LMA, and the NBC affiliate's gonna go buh-bye at the same time. Southwest Florida's DISH viewers will be left with WINK and WFTX out of the Big Four there.

I've never had a satellite so I want to ask this. When a satellite TV (Dish or Direct) drops a TV station, can you cancel your service or does this mean if you cancel you have to pay an early termination fee of sorts?

When I had Dish network there was a 2 year contract. If you tried to cancel you had to pay a early termination fee for each month left on the contract. If you lost a local channel they claim "channels are subject to change".

More Retransmission Consent Sabre Rattling between local stations and/or networks vs Pay TV providers....its as predictable as Year End Lists this time of year.

That's probably because many contracts are set to start - and end - on January 1.

However, WZVN/WBBH's contract expires at the odd time of 2 AM, as opposed to the usual 12 Midnight. I guess they're guaranteed to see Dick Clark again.

Your local cable company must love you. And get ready for more increases in the future because somebody (namely you, me and every other subscriber) is going to have to pay the costs for the huge contracts that all the networks just signed with the NFL.

Be sure and express those sentiments to your Congressman, before he votes to take away the OTA spectrum, and leave you stuck with Pay-Only TV.

Dont worry free tv is here to stay. ;)

Doesn't matter. Ever buy any items or services advertised while watching the NFL, NBA, etc? You are still helping to pay for the contracts to broadcast the games. You simply can't get away from it no matter how hard you try.
