Dish Network, Sling TV parent company prepares bankruptcy filing

This is a chapter 11 bankrupcy that is being filed in this report.

Dish DBS, the parent company of pay television providers Dish Network and Sling TV, is preparing a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing that could be announced as soon as this week, according to a report published on Monday.

The report, from the Wall Street Journal, said the filing comes as Dish DBS struggles to make debt repayments amid ongoing churn in its traditional and streaming TV businesses. Several law firms have been tapped to advise Dish DBS on the bankruptcy filing.

Dish DBS operates as a subsidiary business of Echostar Corporation. In addition to its pay TV services, Dish DBS includes wireless provider Boost Mobile.

wonder how Dish/Sling will handle retransmissions deals with the content provider with this bankruptcy, i know Disney is suing Dish over SlingTV one day pass deal and I'm sure Dish and Disney's current deal expires this year hence why they have yet to allow Dish/Sling costumers to have free access to the ESPN Unlimited plan on the ESPN app yet.

I’m not a huge fan of the Sling product. The channels offered aren’t that great of a variety like DirecTV’s streaming option (which I have). I looked at Sling and even if you get everything, they’re missing a lot of the more niche channels. Then there are weird things where channel are offered in the cheaper packages but not blue and orange bundled together. I feel like the YTTV and DirecTV “skinny” bundle options are better than Sling, which could be a lot more.

For example, I like H&I. It’s not on a local affiliate in my market. To get it with Sling, I can only get it on the cheapest package. Logic would say it would be included in one of the bigger bundles, but it’s not.
