Dish TV vs. Belo

After an agreement with News Corp., which allows Dish to reinstate FX, NatGeo, and dozens of Fox Sports Channels across America, Dish-TV now has another issue it must resolve by 11:59 PM tonight because Dallas-Based Belo Broadcasting is threatening to pull its stations off The Dish-TV lineup. Which means viewers will unable to see their favorite shows carried by Belo's CBS affilliates in Houston(KHOU), San Antonio(KENS-TV), New Orleans(WWL-TV), St. Louis(KMOV), and Phoenix(KTVK-3TV); ABC Stations in Dallas(WFAA), Austin(K-VUE), and Louisville(WHAS); and NBC Stations in Seattle(KING-TV) & Portland, OR (KGW). The clock is ticking...

Belo may own a number of top-rated network-affiliated stations, but they don't have the leverage that FOX has over a distribution dispute. Then again, the Fisher Communications stations were pulled for three months and the imminent Belo dispute is in three Fisher markets (Seattle, Portland, and Boise).

As for KTVK, will they become irrelevant once Oprah moves to cable?

I don't know what percentage of their total viewing Oprah has but I doubt they will become "irrelevant". They are obviously filling a niche viewing habit and do have a number of other quality shows. I will admit to watching channel 3 news nights when the network stations are focused on their big "one story" and beating it to death (ex: recent toner cartridge bombs).

I believe viewers who are currently subscribing to Dish-TV will be getting a rude awakening when they find out if their favorite station will be pulled off the air Tomorrow. Mr Ergen will answering to a lot of irate viewers' questions by then.

No doubt recycling the same answers that they used to respond to the Fox crisis they just pulled out of.

Forgot one large market Belo station...WVEC Norfolk-Virginia Beach.

Maybe it's Belo shooting themselves in the foot by asking for too much during sweeps month and alienating about ten percent of their potential viewership in each market during an ad rate adjustment period. There's two sides to every story...

Well, it's all over because Belo has agreed to keep all of its stations on the Dish-TV lineup for many years to come. I don't get Dish-TV, but I think this really does mean everything to all of its viewers because I could'nt live without 11 News if it was pulled, but rest assured now.

Also WCNC Charlotte.

I was worried about this. I heard somewhere that WCNC was going to be dropped and I can only get it on cable. My results with Wall-E have been less than satisfactory.

Be prepared to see this alot more as people start dropping over rising rates. When rates go up, we consumers pay, don't let any broadcasting company convince you otherwise.

You can quote New York Gubernatoriol Candidate Jimmy McMillian: The Cable Bill is too DAM High!. Yep, wish we could get cable for FREE.
