Disney reportedly explores launching an Amazon Prime-style membership program

I have Amazon Prime because in my area, many items from their website are guaranteed to be delivered to me in 2 hours or less. I get free express shipping on everything else. The movies and other content on Amazon are an extra bonus. Disney is quite different. I don't believe I've ever bought Disney merchandise and it's been 25+ years since I've been to any of their parks. Simply put, they have nothing I want or plan to purchase. Maybe I'd be interested in some of the streaming content, but that's really the only reason I might sign up.

In short, Disney "Prime" would be very, VERY different from Amazon Prime.

I remember a few months ago we mentioned that Dancing with the Stars is moving from ABC to Disney+ as part of a ploy to boost attention to their owned apps. In the case of ABC shows are split between the Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu apps. This is one of the places where Disney is talking about a Prime type membership. But then again that will get attention again once the NBA season starts and ESPN will actually boost more attention to the Prime membership model.

Here is more This is how the TV apps are looking at going forward.

At a time when the Walt Disney Co. is looking for ways to stream ESPN directly to consumers, a new survey reinforces the notion that cable subscribers feel they “must have” the sports network.

Beta Research said that 78% of network viewers called ESPN a “must-have network."

While linear ratings for kids channels have plummeted over the past few years, 73% of viewers called Cartoon Network and Disney Channel “must haves.”
INSP was also labeled must have by 73% of network viewers.
