Disney selling ABC O&Os???

I cannot envision ABC or any network selling off their O&O divisions for quick cash. Each net's O&O division is a steady, long term cash-generating machine which consistently brings good returns...in fact, during lean years at each of the Big 3 networks, the owned and operated stations (and the radio divisions) were the only parts of the companies that showed a profit!

I believe it would be abidingly stupid for such a sale to be even considered just to goose the bottom line for one or two years. What happens when you don't have that steady O&O revenue to backstop your network operations?

The top 5 (WABC, KABC, WPVI, WLS, KGO) and possibly Houston (KTVK) will probably stay O&O's. The others could be sold, as they are in medium and smaller markets.

I don't see ABC bailing out of the top markets.

I agree. It'll be like NBC getting out of Raleigh,
Birmingham, Columbus, and Providence, and selling
those stations to Media General. (Miami didn't have
anything to do with market size, just a lousy o&o).

And the call letters of the ABC station in Houston are
KTRK; KTVK is Channel 3 in Phoenix, a former ABC
affiliate that made a very successful transition to independent.

That was a typo.

And don't forget CBS and Fox just sold their smaller stations too.
