Dissension in the ranks at WBZ Radio AM 1030 The All News Station?

Whether people liked Flo Jonic or not the other news people at the credibility challenged WBZ AM 1030 must feel pretty unsure about covering anything controversial and it must be festing major dissension in the ranks of any real news people there.

Imagine that the news director is just handing out 'cat up the tree' assignments so as not to offend Washington or his check writer, Infinity Broadcasting.

Its a pretty shameful set of circumstances that he would have said WBZ Radio AM 1030 The ALL News Station was holding a major story on potential terrorism until the Fall ratings period.

What the heck is he in the news business for? He should become the mouthpiece for some pol who wants to 'manage the news'.

As long as the present management is there how can anyone listen to their news and not have the feeling that it has been censored by design or by omission.

Will only tune ito 'BZ for the talk shows which I am sure they would like to censor as well. They did it once before when Jerry Williams was their star in the 60's and I am sure they are fully capable of doing it again.

Again, heads must roll at WBZ Radio AM 1030 for attempting to withhold news for ratings purposes or worse because of political pressure. Either way WBZ Radio AM 1030 has to find a way to regain its news credibility. So, far they still have their collective heads in . . . the sand.

Sorry to be a pain in the . . . but no, life doesn't go on if we can't trust our news sources to be honest. Bit of a stickler here. We can't trust our politicians - with good reason - now we have to doubt the likes of WBZ Radio AM 1030 that they are not giving us uncensored or compromised news.

Don't think that is too much to ask and as I wrote 'BZ actions must be causing much dissension within the newsroom whether we hear about it or not. Only hope it will help to bring about positive change.

ughh...i know i'm going to be pissy at myself for posting this (seeing i'm one of the few that outs myself by putting my name in my profile),,but come on...i'm tired of hearing your lame rantings about WBZ...move on and stop being a pain in the as*#!s

I listen to 'bz "everyday", and there appears to be no change in coverage post-Jonic. No cat-in-tree stories, nor Watergate-style investigative reporting. Same 'ol.

You may wish to see dissent in the newsroom, but perhaps the veterans that WBZ employ are too professional for that stuff.

If you think Freedom of The Press is "lame" you are in the wrong business - if you are in the business.

yes, I am in the business...and my point was that you have ranted and started a handful of threads complaining about BZ,,and I agree with the other person that said there doesn't seem to be any noticeable changes. Let it go. There. I'm done being cranky about this.

Don't think you are cranky; you just have a different view. Hope you respect mine.

It's surprising to see someone as young as you - and so new to the business - ask people to stop talking about a situation like this. I would think you'd want to learn about some of the dark things that can happen in radio.

It's a sunny spring day in 1944. Working as an American radio news reporter on the Europe beat, you come across an interesting story. A major plan is unfolding to change the course of history. Others suspect the plan might take place but you not only discover what but when.

So what do you do? Do you censor or hold your story? Or do you report the story? Because if you follow your own advice, "Parklane", German forces learn what is about to happen, and act quickly to defeat Operation Overlord. Hundreds of Thousands of landing allied troops are killed, and all of them in vain. D-Day is a complete failure because the enemy was tipped off and the ability of the allies to stop the Nazis in Europe is in serious doubt.

In a time of war, some acts of censorship are completely appropriaate. In anytime, publicly attacking your boss is never appropriate.

The most notable part of the story was the WBZ radio was doing any self reporting at all. Usually it seems that the are reading the Globe or AP copy to their listeners.

But go ahead, write yet another post saying the same thing about how you don't like WBZ. I noticed that I'm certainly not the only one here who disagrees with you.

I think I am a very aware person. Read several newspapers each day and listen to the news ( but not on WBZ Radio AM 1030 anymore) and watch several newscasts each day but I guess missed a Major news story. When did Congress declare WAR and who did they declare WAR against... the Saudi Royal Family...the family the protected Mohammad Atta and his friends? You know the same Saudi Royal Family with whom the Bush family invests in OIL.

We are not talking about "D" Day which if you watched Saving Private Ryan was pure suicide and would never be a military maneuver today. No, we are talking about a station that did nothing but cave to the FBI to protect the FBI's gluteous maximus. Then WBZ management had the gaul to give the excuse they were going to hold the story about inadequate security at the One Center Plaza office in Boston until the fall rating period. That is criminal. Suppose there had been a terrorist attack in the interim and many civilians and innocent people had been killed or injured because the "alleged all news station" withheld news that could have saved their lives.

In my mind that is as criminal as the owners of The Coconut Grove Night Club locking escape doors so patrons would not leave without paying. Over 400 people died in November of 1944 when a fire hit that night club and the owner went to jail.
WBZ would have been in the same spot had there been an attack and it was revealed that they "locked the doors" on information that may have saved lives.

I don't hate WBZ I am disappointed in WBZ. A once great radio institution has become nothing but a poor excuse for all those who over the past 80 plus years made it great.

WBZ AM 1030's management made an irresponsible decision and now they would like to kill the messenger.

As the Dean use to say: "Wake Up America !"
