Distance an HD station has been received.

With many of the 50,000 watt stations now broadcasting in HD such as WSCR, WGN, WLW, and many others, I am curious if anyone has measured the distance they can be received in HD.

While travleing north of Chicago I picked up WSAI 1530 in Cincy for a distance of over 430 miles. FM whise I have done 170 miles.

What radio did you use for 170miles?

Haven't heard any DX audio yet, but I did get the auxiliary data ("text ID") from WOAI this spring, one night when they left the HD on overnight. That's about 800 miles away.

A couple of DXers have received FM-IBOC via sporadic-E, over distances of 1,000 miles or so.

A note from CCrane.com on HD Radio:

"Note: The HD radio signal is only available within approximately 100 miles of HD broadcasts, but it will still pick up standard (analog) AM/FM signals as normal when the HD signal is out of range. You can be assured Crane is working on developing an antenna to increase this range."

That's great news! Thanks!

All depends on the height and power for FM and just the power for AM. Full 50kW Ams I have easily gotten over 100 miles. Full Class C FMs about 100 miles. This is in the car.
