Distant Signals and All News Radio that Houston Lacks.

Driving home from a late night at the office last night, many of the distant AMs were coming in loud and clear between 11:30 and midnight. This is certainly not unusual. I caught WHO from Des Moines, KOA from Denver and KWKH from Shreveport, and several others that I could not identify because I didn't spend enough time listening. But what really caught my attention was hearing a local news broadcast and hearing WBBM news time is 11:42... and then WBBM news time is 11:44. Local news at that hour.. .I wish we could get that here. I used to avidly listen to KTRH but they lost me when they stopped running afternoon news for the drive home. At least KUHF picked up a lot of the news talent from several of the other stations as news has been cut way back everywhere, except at KUHF.

I don't know about that. There was a severe ice storm in North Texas on New Year's Eve 2000. KTRH was on the air every few minutes with warnings not to travel there. What were the local news talk stations in Dallas doing? Running pre-recorded talk shows while their staff got drunk at New Year's Eve parties. I was driving into Dallas from Lubbock, and had no idea what I was facing, because there was no coverage in Dallas. After that experience, I maintained a first class DX setup in Lubbock so I could check KTRH before I went to Dallas. Pretty hard to do with another 740 in Carlsbad, but it worked. I always admired KTRH for that coverage, even though it did me little good because I trusted the Dallas stations. They let me down.
