Hey gang. Long time lurker here... infrequent poster. I'm a New Orleans native... who left the city... and the radio biz... for tv jobs back in 1999. I've been home to visit a couple of times since... but I haven't heard "Diva" yet. What's the station like? It almost looks like what 105.3 tried a couple of years back with that music/entertainment hybrid format. Just curious to hear what you guys and gals think. What do listeners think?

Also, I worked with Robb Holloway back at Mix 104.1 in the 90s. I see the afternoon slot is posted. Is Robo headed somewhere? They fill his slot yet?

-Kaos

Well WDVW is more along the lines of a Dance/Rhythmic Top 40 direction similar to what WKTU/New York City does but with the Adult Top 40 hits mixed in. They tend to play a lot of current and classic Dance product but you'll also hear tracks from non-Dance artists like Lifehouse and Gavin McGraw.

As for the entertainment part, well almost, since most of the 'features' on the stations' morning show is geared towards women.

In a nutshell they're a pretty decent station, despite having the "Diva" moniker.

Yeah, it's pretty much "music that makes you feel alive" as they say. lol

It's a combination of some current CHR, with Hot AC, dance, and some disco. If you ask me, it's got that old Mix 104.1 "edge" if you will. ...Remembering when Mix used to play current CHR with all that 80's, 90's and disco like the Grease Megamix, the Bee Gee's, and all! The only thing is, they throw in the entertainment and fashion news for the ladies. I do miss MIX! I miss the jingles they had, too! Wish I had a copy of 'em!

Anyways, the PD at Diva is John McQueen and I believe he's from New York. The station is growing and it's target audience is obviously females.

I don't remember them saying Robo left, so I'm not sure if there is a slot availible.... The PD used to do middays, but now he's mornings. Jim Hanzo was on in the mornings, but they moved him to afternoons, I wanna say.

Just for the record, they also have a sister station in Baton Rouge called Capital City Diva @ 103.3. Can be heard in New Orleans as well.

Check out their website:

New Orleans loses another known name..

As posted on Allaccess.com Robb Holloway and his fiance' Jenn from the former Morning Blend on Diva 92.3 are leaving New Orleans and heading up to the Portland, Oregon area. Another New Orleans known name leaving due to Katrina. Good luck to the both of them in the future.<P ID="signature">______________

Is it me or has Diva New Orleans gone a little more mainstream with Lifehouse and such? It's definitely a departure from the beginnings. Diva BR is more like the original vision of Diva I think that John McQueen had. (I know overall ratings are not too hot for both Diva(s))

Jim Hanzo I think was moved to afternoons on Diva as he is now doing mornings on Martini 106.1 according to the website for the new modern standards station.
(which is another John McQueen idea BTW)

Hanzo is doing mornings live on Martini and voicetracking middays on Diva.

I also wish Robb and Jenn all the best. I was the traffic guy for Jim & Jenn. That was a fun gig.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I appreciate it.
By the way... what Mix jingles are you referring to? I have a CD with the jingle package we used at Mix from 1996-1999. Some of the old KHOM sweepers on it too.

Diva 92.3 is looking!

Spread the word if you know of any talents looking for a gig...
afternoons on Diva is available. My last day is Friday. They have received tapes but haven't narrowed it down yet. Make sure if its "Rocko" on the Classic rock station in Des Moines you let him know its a station called "Diva" with a pink van.

If anybody's travels takes them to the Pacific Northwest look us up.
Jenn and I would love to take you out for one of those frothy Oregon
micro-brews. Hopefully we'll have gigs by then and won't ask you to pay.

By the way, I wanna thank everybody who posts on radio-info. It has been quite
entertaining to read everybody's perception of radio and radio in
Louisiana. Some actually has merit. Radio-info is definitely a guilty pleasure and will be a good way to keep tabs on the New Orleans airwaves.
So keep it up.

To everybody staying in the city...
I wish you much luck and prosperity. I love how unflappable people who love this city have been. Never wavering in pursuits of being part of the comeback. People read about Tom Benson, Louisiana politics, the NOPD, and those pesky looters. They never find out how cool and caring the people are.
Most of them.
They are going to bring New Orleans back.

Happy Holidays, y'all!

Best of luck and God bless you Robb. Portland's a cool town and Powell's City of Books is like no other.

I am referring to the package they had at about that time! It was when The Nasty Man and all were on the station. I think it was their only package they had for a long time. Then, I'd say about 8 months before they flipped formats, they changed to some new package that wasn't as "energetic" as the originals.

If at all possible, could I get a copy of 'em?! I am a personal jingle collector and I just LOVED them!

Dude I was referring to that package as well because I also spoke with Kaos weeks ago about it. Calm yourself son and read before you jump the gun.
