I heard this station on my radio outside of San Antonio, near Boerne, and I assumed it was maybe a format flip of KLTG in Corpus Christi or KHMX in Houston but after visiting the websites, they are still The Beach 96.5 and Mix 96.5 Does anyone know where "Today's Best Mix. Diva 96.5" was coming from? I wish I had been closer to the top of the hour Legal I.D.

Thanks.

Diva is KAKI 96.5 Ingram Texas

When did this happen? Last I saw it was still in the CP stage. In any event it's an interesting format choice for Ingram TX!

Hill Country ladies turn your dials. There now is a radio station just for you.

[EDIT]

“They control most of the purchasing, whether their husbands will admit it,” Bridge said. “I personally think it’s a challenging format they’re undertaking. ... A lot of people will say it’s high-time they did that.”

Well, I commend them for trying something like this. Hopefully the Kerrville area will take a liking to Diva. Tony Bridge is a Texas broadcasting legend and it's great to see that he played a big role in getting the station going.

My favorite line...

"Although unique to the Hill Country, there are other stations airing adult contemporary formats in Texas."

... hahaha!

Wow, thanks. It's not even registered with www.radio-locator.com yet. The reception was really spotty in Boerne. Is it a low power station that only services Kerrville or do you think the reception will get better? Anyone know how much power they are broadcasting?

It's a class C3 running 13.5 kw of power, though it should be the technical equivalent of 25 kw since that's the maximum for a C3. You can find a little information on radio-locator, but it doesn't really tell you much since the station's still listed as off-air. The best place to check is the FCC's FM query page. If it works, here's the link: http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM1182423.html.

Frankly I'd forgotten about this one, Kent, since it had been a while since I looked over the application. They're actually fairly short of being equivalent. Maybe they could have gone max power with another tower out west, but they opted for 100 meters with co-owned KRNH Kerrville. It's not directional, but with the lower power they're operating like a "contour protection station." The application implied that they wanted to be on the safe side, since "Diva" is squeezed in between KHFI 96.7 and KAJZ Llano 96.3. Probably a wise move.
