Divination

The meaning of the recent changes in Buffalo radio has been revealed to me. Let's look at what's happened:

1. Mensa Mike is dissatisfied and making it known on the air.
2. Bill O'Laughlin pulls the plug on WECK and goes to Channel 2.
3. Brad Riter is reading the newspaper on the air - and announces it to the world.
4. Brad Riter pulls himself off of PM drive at WLVL.

Now, let's look at the state of local radio that pertain to these recent developments.

1. WLVL has a successful morning show.
2. Brad is the biggest talent on WECK.
3. Both WLVL and WECK have some big holes to fill with the departure of O'Laughlin, and Brad's decision to "fire himself" from WLVL.

I consulted Cassandra the Seer, and she revealed to me what all this means!

1. Brad will move to mornings at WECK. It's the premium daypart, and he's the guy to set the tone. Channel 2 will pay "reparations" for stealing Bill O. by allowing rebroadcast of their news cut-ins on the Today show. The cut-ins go at :26 and :56. They end in plenty of time to hit the WECK airwaves at the top & bottom of the hour. Sayonara, Tom Donohue. Your salary has to go. BTW, if Brad's late, they'll just simulcast the Channel 2 "Daybreak" show until he shows up.

2. Lorraine will move to 9-12AM on WECK. She'll host WNY's only show dedicated to the Arts. Bloggers will love her.

3. Mensa Mike will leave WGR, where he's so bored by the restrictive sports format, to create a new talk show that will be simulcast on WECK and WLVL in PM drive. He'll have the freedom to roam at will through his many and varied interests. Yeah, he'll take a pay cut, but he could make it up by selling part time.

Voila. That Cassandra really cleared things up.

Are ANY of those stations on FM? Other than GR, do any of those stations get more than a 1 share?

WHY, pray tell, does anyone care? It's the tree falling in the forest.

Answer to #1: No.

Answer to #2: We really don't. This is for entertainment purposes only.

Or, the plan is just so brilliant that everybody but you is speechless. Then again, I've rarely seen you at a loss for words.

It's almost embarrassing the amount of time and space that W**K is given on this board. The station is on life support. It doesn't show up 25-54 and barely shows 12+. Meanwhile WYRK owns the market but except for a few posts, gets little mention. This is bizarro world.

I couldn't have said it any better.

But the point is that you didn't say it. Element 9 did. Then again, he's in the market and aware of what's really going on around here.
