Dixie Chicks & Country Music

I was just sick to my stomach this morning to read an article about two stations in Atlanta (Kicks 101.5 and Eagle 106.7) who wouldn't accept advertising for the Dixie Chicks show in Atlanta. They also haven't played a Chicks song since 2003.What is this world coming to? It's a sad state for radio to hear stories like this. Are we going to start up station-sponsored record burnings again? Natalie made a comment about the President. She didn't say that the Dixie Chicks were "more popular than Jesus" or god-forbid "bigger than the Beatles!"It's also a really sad state for country music that seems to have settled into the formulaic, cookie cutter approach. Who's the next Shania? Who's the next Garth? Who's the next Alabama? It's all the same. Dare to be different and you're banished from the club.Johnny Cash is turning in his grave right now. He would be sad to see how small-minded Country radio - the same radio that banished him - still remains.Do your part - go buy a Dixie Chicks record and concert ticket!

???Sick to YOUR stomach? Think of the Station managers that find out the numbers have gone down because that station plays the Dixie Chicks. If you have listeners that don't like the Chicks, they will tune into another station that does not play them.....Seems absurd, but it happens all the time. Especially in my market. Do I blame the listeners? No.....they are the ones that control the airwaves. I blame the Chicks.....They continue to rub it in our faces, that they don't like country radio. When you sow the wind, you reap the whirlwind.

The Chicks have said it over and over.........They're "not ready to make nice" with country radioThey don't want to be part of the country genreThey don't want to be in the same CD changer with Reba & Toby KeithThey want fans who "get it" and will "grow with them"So, why are people shocked when stations do things like this? Country music has gotten along just fine without the Chicks the past 3 years. Natalie and crew think they're gonna bring down Country radio with their continued "in your face" assault. They won't. Country music is doing just fine without them.

I am NOT A FAN OF COUNTRY MUSIC but I do like some country & My parents love the Dixie Chicks so buy there cd. There not that bad. HOnestly, they can be better than Jason Mraz, Fall Out Boy,Kelly Clarkson, & Kanye West sometimes!

-The Chicks have berated country as a format as being "limiting"...-berated the listeners as redneck....-berated core artist like Reba by association...and you wonder why not just Atlanta...but most markets in the US country format wont play them????All the press in the world can make this work. They were on the cover of Time, Good Morning America, CBS 60 Minitues, Diane Sawyer special, Larry King. The press leads with 750k or so album sales [when they expected 3M] and sold them at 9.99. So what? Without Country Radio....since this is a country Forum, they cant get now two records out of the high 30s or sell shows like the past. Pop markets arent doing it for them either. You neither see their album covers on the FSI's of Wal-Mart, Circuit City, Target or Best Buy do you? why? they are bad news and more trouble than they are worth. I've said this before: If we were an urban format, and an artist trashed the core of that format, they would be as dead as the chicks. Leave country alone. We're in the ratings business. Chicks are bad for ratings.
