Dixie Chicks "Not Ready to Make Nice"

Is there a station on this area playing the Dixie Chickslatest single "Not Ready To Make Nice"? I have seen thevideo on VH1.

That is too bad that they still don't get airplayon Eagle of Kicks because they have a lot of talent.Especially when you consider that a good bit of themusic out of Nashville these days is anything butCountry.

Country radio has been so bad for so long that I don't care if they add the Chicks or not. But it is funny that they shy away from them for their lyrics. Why not put a microscope up toevery single country act and see if they are all living the conservative lifestyle. I actually saythis as someone who has always voted Republican. If I stopped listening to music based onlyrics or the lifestyle of the artist then I'd have to throw out half of my CD collection. While I DO understand country radio not playing a blatant political song, it still seems silly thatpeople get so bent out of shape over something like that. Personally, I'm more offended bymarginal "artistic" work like Toby Keith than someone who has the ability to make music sound fresh.(I don't know much about Dixie Chicks actually... thinking more along the lines of Dwight Yoakam,The Mavericks and Lucinda Williams).

That is the point I was thinking as well. Johnny Cash was notalways politically correct(Sunday Morning Coming Down) andnot to mention that Country radio basically blew off the last few albums he made. Plus, Loretta Lynn (The Pill) and her last albumthat got a grammy. The lack of artist that are innovative is sorely lacking.Plus, I don't stop listening to artist just because I disagree with their politicalviews. Someone may not like what the Chicks said three years ago. But, they havestood by it and have not changd for the sake of being politically correct and I may or may notagree with it. But, I can respect it and I can respect that they do have talent and itis sad that they can get passed over for artists that will be forgotten in a short amount of time.

Who cares what the fat "Chick", or any of the "Chicks" think anyway? She is intellectually vacuous, as are most entertainers, and her opinions are about as newsworthy as "Chick" squeeze. What is this whole facination our culture has with "rockstars" and "moviestars?" Why not just go back to a monarchy.....Kings and Queens and Princes and Princesses.....people we can serve and adore and give all our money to? In this age of instant, global communications, we should be able to overcome our need to worship others. We grasp quantum physics, we sent men to the moon......we have thermonuclear weapons which can destroy whole cities....and we still want to do this hero worship routine??We deserve the leaders we get and the same is true for entertainers......we get 'em cause that's what we deserve!! If you hate the chicks....or if you hate Bush....take a good, hard look at yourself. What have YOU done to change anything.I say....play the chicks if the music is good! If the music sux....don't play the record.

Amen... This is truth plain and simple. I will only add that it seems that weve all become so tied up in political issues of the day that we have forgotton basichuman feelings. Who cares anyway? If the music is good then play it, if notThrow it away. (But in the case of the chicks) Throw it all away.. lol, Sorryjust my take.

The geniuses didn't realize that as a country music entertainer you can sing or talk about just about anything but you can't run down the country and you can't tell your fans they are dumb.

I did do a little research and found that the Dixie Chicks latestrelease is doing well on the charts. The question is are theybeing played on the radio here in the Atlanta area?

No clue what your research is but according to Billboard magazine, the Chicks' latest single "Not Ready To Make Nice" peaked at no. 36 a few weeks ago and is already down to 43. That is not a hit by any stretch of the imagination, esp. since the Dixie Chicks regularly hit the top 10 before the 2003 flap.

The information I got from the Billboard website is #28 on Hot 100 chart and #11 on the digital tracks chartPlus, I have seen the video on VH1. So, Rodney, do you know if an Atlanta radio station is going to play it?

Which chart? Country? Hot 100? AC?

I looked at the current Billboard country singles chart, which reflects only country radio airplay. And since the song is a diss at the country music industry in general, it's not a surprise it's been rejected by said industry. Their second single "Everybody Knows," debuted on the chart at No. 53. I haven't heard it yet. The Dixie Chicks still have a huge core fan base and some are probably purchasing the song as a digital download, which helps fuel their rankings on the pop 100 and digital download charts. We're all going to have to guess how many people buy their latest album, due out in a couple of weeks, without the benefit of support from country radio. I suspect a fair opening week, thanks to lots of publicity, but not as much long-term survival without hit singles.Kicks and Eagle won't touch the Dixie Chicks because in their research, the group gets such high negatives. About half the radio stations in the country don't play them at all. Most stations that do are in more liberal pockets such as Portland, San Diego and Minneapolis.

WRFG is playing the Chicks on its Americana shows. The station has an extremely diverse audience and I'm sure that half the audience isn't happy.

Yeah remember, it's ok to have your own opinion, as long as it agrees with everyone else.
Only when they are your customers.

Personally, when I go buy a CD, I do not care about what their opinion about political issuesare. I am buying their music. Simply put if I like it I will buy it. If an artists puts out work that I don't like, then I am not their customer. Just like radio, I could care less about the opinionof the majority of Jocks (including talk shows conservative or liberal). Their opinion has no morevalidity than mine. Clark Howard is an exception.
