Dixon and Willoughby on 1070AM Leaving

As many of you know, Richard Dixon and J. Willoughby are leaving for bigger and better things in an undisclosed market (rated higher than Bham). Their last day on WAPi is this Friday and there will be a final KidOne fundraiser at Otey's Tavern in Mountain Brook tomorrow night starting around 7pm. Please come and support KidOne Transport as well as bid the guys a fond farewell and Bon Voyage!

And the word is right now that Mark and Mack (former WDJC guys) will be their replacements starting sometime next week...

WAPI is actually a good match for Mark and Mack. I wish them all the luck in this endeavour.

On a second note...were Dixon and Willoughby that popular to deserve a promotion to a bigger market or were they really good at self promotion which in turn led to a bigger market? That question will go down with the age old question about trees falling in the woods, if no one was there to hear the sound, did it make a sound?

I never really got to listen to this morning thing, but I remember Dixon doing well afternoons on WAPI. I used to listen almost everyday, fighting the electrical noise at work in Trussville. He had a kind of intelligent-funny thing going on that I just don't hear on the radio much anymore...

He's been a Birmingham radio staple for a while, hasn't he? I recall many years of Mason & Dixon in the morings on Rock 99 before he went to WAPI (with one of those women Dixons)... Eventually going solo.

Whoever that last lady was to fill the Dixon end of things on the morning show sounded very intelligent and cynical - I always thought they worked well together, albeit not in the tight morning show format.

Eh. I'll shut up now. I'd like to know what "bigger market" they wind up at. ;)
