Dixon and Willoughby on HTQ

While I have no grief with the current morning team and frankly haven't heard them enough to judge, I will say this.... Cox has a TREMENDOUS opportunity to make WHTQ a major player in the market with the rock format. Fix the music by losing the 70's and start rockin' some currents, hire a good recognizable morning (or afternoon team for that matter) like Pat Lynch and Taco Bob, and they'll beat WJRR/WTKS easily. You want the old DIZ/HTQ sounds of the late 80's and early 90's before the WJRR and O-Rock lame days got here... Here's your chance. You've already got the #1 country station, the #1 urban adult station (a younger skewing one near the top), the #1 news/talk station, and 2 "rock" stations that programmed correctly to be the #1 AC and #1 active/classic rock stations in the market. Why they haven't pulled the trigger on WHTQ I have no clue.

PS... Word is Bubba could be there in January. However, while Bubba looks to be an instant fix for WHPT in Tampa Bay, I'm not so sure he can do the same for WHTQ. If they're gonna put Bubba there, they absolutely need to bookend him with solid music direction and an afternoon show like Pat and Taco.

Dixon & Willoughby are pretty good. They actually have talent and know how to do a good morning show. I was excited when they first hit the air. I used to flip back and forth between them and the fiasco on JRR. What I like about D&W is that they talk about rock & roll, and seem like cool guys..

There is another morning show in town that is just a bunch of guys and a 16 year old girl talking at the same time...It is a truly horrible show. The top host of this show actually said once that he is "close & personal friends with Gene Simmons.." Whatever dude.....I mean, this show is so frickin bad that I would rather listen to Rachel Ray or Rosie O' Donnell talk all morning than these clowns...I mean, they are truly terrible. Anyways, Dixon & Willoughby are alright...

Later...

DIZ Guy...

Can we bring back Baxter and Mark? Ron and Ron? Doc and Johnny? Bill and Alan?

Doc HAS been back. He's on WWKA. Cox brought back Grace too! Great Show!

??? Where is this rumor coming from that Bubba will be on WHTQ in January? Granted, he's on in Tampa, but as far as I know, Dixon & Willoughby are still going to be there. Any feedback, people? ???

Well, first, the fact that HTQ would be stupid NOT too... especially considering the great ratings he had in Orlando and the fact that the male target in the mornings is WIDE OPEN for the taking right now. Dixon and Willoughby aren't exactly setting the market on fire right now ya now?

Secondly, Cox has not been secretive about their desires to continue rolling Bubba out. Look for him in Miami come October and Orlando in January.

If Dixon and Willoughby are knocked off HTQ they will be welcomed back to Birmingham where they did alright.

I've actually not yet heard their show in Orlando, and I didn't ever hear the D&W morning show in B'ham, but I DID listen regularly to Richard Dixon when he was flying solo with an afternoon drive talk show on the Citadel talker in Birmingham. His show was by far the most entertaining local talk show (granted, that ain't saying much.)

Does the show get any latitude to actually discuss topics or is it one bit followed by an hour of commercials and one song like most morning radio up in these parts? Dixon was always much more intelligent than a morning show spot would lead one to believe, from what I remember.

There is no way that HTQ is going to put Bubba on. WHTQ has never had a jock like that. It would be a dumb idea.

Bubba should go to Real radio....

It's not up to WHTQ. If cox wants Bubba on in Orlando

It's not up to WHTQ. If cox wants Bubba on in Orlando, cox will have Bubba on in Orlando. And the only cox station in Orlando he would fit on is WHTQ.

I guess we will just have to see what happens. The last thing that Orlando needs now is a rock station that plays no more music in the morning. It is bad enough that that Monsters crap is still on, Lex & Crappy-ass Terry, now we will have to get Bubba the Love fart who TANKED a few years ago on WJRR....

I sure do miss the days when Orlando rock radio was good...

Somebody bring back Craig Morgan, Lee Randall, Ron Lewis...

Where are you getting the info that he tanked? He actually did quite well for JRR during the brief time he was here.

The fact that Fat Ass the Love Fart was only on for a short period of time on WJRR shows that his show will not do well in this market...

I mean, c'mon guys, people don't want to hear one guy talking, they want to hear a bunch of people talking at the same time who have names even WORSE than Fat Guy the Love Dude, like for instance, DRUNKY THE BEAR......

That is the crap that people in Orlando want to hear...

Bring back Baxter & Mark...they were funny and knew rock & roll....

Hell, bring back WDIZ!!!!!!!!

Well whether you like him or not... times have changed; and Bubba DID have decent ratings for the short time he was on WJRR. It's not about YOU or the other listeners, it's about the bottom line and maximizing your talent. Just the facts man... no offense to your tastes or wishes. You said, "WHTQ has never had a jock like that" and you're damn right... and they've NEVER had ratings that the Sponge would generate. Face it... the Monsters on 104.1 are fading and L&T are a cheap attempt by 101.1 to be a player in the mornings. YES, rock music would be tough to find in the mornings, but I guarantee you HTQ would see a bump that just might carry into the rest of the day. And then it's up to the music...

On the other hand... can someone please tell me why the idea of Pat Lynch and Taco Bob taking over afternoons at WHTQ has not been entertained? These guys would bring instant numbers to 96.5 and really put a hurt on WJRR.

Putting Pat & taco on in the afternoons on WHTQ would be an excellent idea. I always liked those guys because they were funny and knew about rock & roll. There old afternnoon time slot on WJRR back in '03 when Rhino the fat ass love sponge dude was on in the morning was great...I will be a satisfied listener just as long as we do not get another talk show in this market that has some old, cranky know-it-all guy, or some crap like the Monsters..

The Monsters are truly horrible. I remember reading an article in the Sentinel once about those clowns, and they called Dirty Jim "Orlando radio legend Dirty Jim"....ORLANDO RADIO LEGEND MY ASS!!!!!!!!That guy sounds like somebody is holding his nose whenever he talks...BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
