They've been playing dance hits mixed with Spanish hits.

Wonder what this means for WPOW and the future of Y100 Hispanic numbers.

Will this station be able to crossover and be considered "mainstream Miami" station or stay considered a "Spanish station"??

And who else jumps to DJ106.7 with Laz

The folks who like Laz and the English rhythmic will not generally like the Spanish stuff, and the people who like mostly Spanish stuff will probably not be Laz partisans. This sounds like a format that, outside of Laz fans in the morning, will appeal to a very small constituency.
 
The idea of bringing Laz back in Miami is a great move for launching this new format for SBS, in an attempt to dominate the market saturated by these type of Hurban based formats. Any station like Mix 98, Power, and Mega can play the same format to attract the young urban hispanic demo, but which of the above mentioned are bringing in good talent.

SBS needs to grab some of the free agent talent roster of djs and mixers and drop the spanglish gimmick but play a handful of the viral spanish hit songs making an impact. English speaking, local feel, always live.

also notice they say "MIAMIs NEW #1 PARTY STATION" on the site...while POWER 96 has put up billboards touting MIAMI'S PARTY STATION = saw one on I-95 southbound near Stirling.

There must be a "Party" going on in South Florida... unless you count Party 93.1-HD2!
 
ha ha 1067/965 claiming they are 'Party Stations" ? FAIL Party-931/2 www.party931.com is the ORIGINAL miami dance music station, Sour 96 started claiming their miamis party station after the original 93.1's demise to claim on their notriety...
 
So if DJ Laz is going to be syndicated out of LA, does that mean he'll be on in LA from 3AM-7AM local time (pacific)?
 
Not sure, but it could be an arrangement like Big Boy's Neighborhood (heard out of KPWR Power 106 Los Angeles), where they're on live from 3-6am PT (6-10am ET) for their east coast affiliates and then continue live from 6-10am PT (9am-1pm ET) for the west coast.

Likely there's some "re-purposing" of their material for one feed or the other (similar to Seacrest's deal).
 
DJ106.7 Is live and Power 96 seems to be dying.DJ will get a slice Power's audience for sure. I might be getting ahead of myself but could Power be forced to flip sometime in the next year?

Dj Africa the mixer/dj, not the morning show female on air jock Afrika from Power 96. Dj Africa previously worked for SBS.

Let's not forget that Power 96 is consulted and directed by Bill Tanner, the person who dominated mornings for several decades in the Miami market... and the person who hired Laz and trained and guided him. If it is between Power and Tanner vs. SBS with Laz, I put my money on Power.
 
With Laz at Power 96 or not, their ratings and cume were already dropping.

With that being said, demise might be too strong of a word, but Power 96 is in trouble. Nonetheless, this will be interesting to watch unfold.

As for Tanner, he's in his mid 70s now and his hands tremble. He's not looking too hot these days. I don't think he will be consulting for much longer.

Hm. Well I can't say that he looks better than a 24 year old latina from Miami who is fit. I only call it as I see it. So then you were in LA David Eduardo? As we all know that Tanner jetted ASAP before the Arbitron consultant could even settle in at Power 96 to give the, err um "Analysis" as to why the station is doing so poorly.

PREDICTION: DJ106.7 dominates and destroys Power 96. By Jan 1, 2014, WPOW flips to go after Hot 105 or Easy 93
