Mr. Frazier:
Thank you for responding to an earlier topic of mine. I salute you guys for offering your services to WWL to air the emergency recovery broadcast.
You all have been NO DOUBT NUMBER ONE in discussing recovery. Breaking that story about Nagin's idiot Meffert halting the 1st class communications network a couple of years ago that would have served us well during Katrina (oh, by the way, did you see Couhig has been listening to you---as he got in that topic on tonight's nationally televised debate?) earned all the respect I can give you, which can't be quantified.
Just to comment on WWL refusing to take your offer. Now remember, I have been very critical of WWL on this board, but here's the way I see it.
Metairie suffered from Broussard's flood (although it could have been worse if a levee had broke). That means several businesses/restaurants/grocery stores were flooded. As I understand it, services were limited, and it would have taken some time to get water/power/sewer back up in Metairie. It wouldn't have been so wise to have so many broadcasters cramped into Metairie where services were very limited. I am not saying the WJBO location was so great (as many broadcasters like the wuss Gerry V complained about being cramped into a trailer/RV in the WJBO parking lot or having to sleep on the floor in the studio), but keep in mind, for these guys to get something to eat, they would have had to travel very far--and getting relief food takes a long time. I could see maybe sending a few WWL reporters to your studio to keep an eye on things on the east side of the river in Jefferson Parish. I know Dave Cohen spent a lot of time at the EOC in Marrero broadcasting from there.
Nevertheless, I am disappointed you all weren't included/invited to be part of the "United Radio" and I would have enjoyed listening to you. Although Eric was far away, I am sure that he would have made an effort to get back close to home to help out with the broadcast.
I also want to ask you something regarding Zephyrs afternoon broadcasts. Last year, the Zephyrs had an afternoon game on the West coast (Sacramento, I believe), and for some stupid reason I hear Tim Grubbs say that the game would be only on the internet because national radio hosts during day on your station have agreed to maximum number of times of being pre-empted. This was ridiculous, especially considering that unless I fly out to California to watch the game, I would have to get to the internet and stay in front of/near a computer for several hours. Last year, I thought it might have been the arrogant Sean Hannity who imposed this (since he was still on your station at the time). But then last week, for a home game against Memphis, the same thing happens again--but this time I see Neal Boortz would be pre-empted. The little moron was angry that just the last 30 minutes of his show would be cut off? I am sure Eric would have had the class to give up his show for the day for Zs.
I don't understand why Boortz and Hannity feel superior to being pre-empted. Yet Savage, who is by the far the best national show on your station, gets pre-empted all the time by Zs. And not just by Zs, by Tulane coaches shows and broadcasts as well.
I hope you will respond on the latter or both topics.
Thanks in advance.
