DLR & Classic Rock stations

Just a curious thought - in markets where David Lee Roth is going on the air, do you think competing non-Infinity owned Classic Rock stations will pull all their Van Halen songs out of rotation?

I think not.

DLR will be gone in less than a year, and playing Van Halen songs is not going to make him last any longer or shorter. Maybe some lesser stations will pull DLR solo stuff, but why give your competitors ammo to say "they fear us" ?

No. The stations play what songs their audience listens to. Playing a VH song wouldn't make listeners switch to hear DLR's talk show on a competing station.

I know the station I used to work for didn't have any plans to pull VH off the air...but then again...as far as I knew...they had no plans to fire me either. So what do I really know? I'm a lowly weekend jock. (Just saving someone time by ripping my non-existent credibility in advance)

Another question would be:

Will the existence of DLR on WBCN...starting Jan 3rd ;) cause Van Halen song scores in auditorium tests to increase?

Which, if it does happen, only further negates the legitimacy of using the opinions of 200 people to represent the "listening preferences" of a market of millions.

....thinking too much like a programmer, while working beyond my professional capabilities as weekend-boy, by manning the overnights this week.

So what about VH tunes with Sammy Hagar singing lead?

As others have noted, WAAF pulling VH out of rotation makes no more sense than for a station to add songs by a pseudo-celebrity AM host (the altrock station in Conn. that had Dee Snider in mornings back in the 90s comes to mind...I doubt they played Twisted Sister).

Apparantly WMMR in PHilly has dropped VH because of DLR going to WYSP as morning host. I agree it's a lunkhead move because VH is a rock/aor staple. It's not like dropping Sugar Ray because Mark Mcgrath got a morning show on your competition that makes sense because very few would miss them if they dissapeared from the playlist. IF aaf did actually pull VH that's bad programming, period.

I don't know of any stations that have pulled Alice Cooper off their playlists because the crosstown competition runs his evening show. Perhaps they refrain from "saying it when they're playing it", but beyond that, it's business as usual.<P ID="signature">______________

Re: I think not.

Good point about Alice, Viking.
By the way, thanks for the compliment, but I cannot take credit for
someone else's work re: those great Spirit reviews. Same dude wrote
up Alice Cooper's Easy Action.

Boy, wish I could pack that kind of information into a few paragraphs.
Powerful stuff. My head was spinning too - from all the knowledge!

Makes zero sense to stop playing music from the greatest rock band ever...hilarious that stations would only play Van Hagar....it would serve only 1 purpose to do that...to further prove that Diamond DLR truly is the king of rock....because Van Hagar only makes Van Halen sound that much better (if that could be possible)/
