Do any AC stations still play these tracks?

I was thinking about a lot of songs earlier that have vanished from the AC format over the years, a lot from the latter part of the 80s. I know that a lot of slower/softer stuff doesn't do well for the AC format anymore, which I understand, but this was pretty much out of curiosity. Does anybody still play any of these?

38 Special - Second Chance
Mike & The Mechanics - The Living Years
Genesis - Hold On My Heart & Throwing It All Away
Elton John - Sacrifice & Circle Of Life
Cher & Peter Cetera - After All
Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville - All My Life
Rod Stewart - Downtown Train, The Motown Song, This Old Heart Of Mine
Wilson Phillips - Hold On
Steve Winwood - The Finer Things, Back In The High Life
Survivor - The Search Is Over
Starship - Sara
Simply Red - If You Don't Know Me By Now
Heights - How Do You Talk To An Angel
Don Henley - The End Of The Innocence, Last Worthless Evening
Richard Marx - Endless Summer Nights, Hold On To The Night
Breathe - Hands To Heaven
Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
Phil Collins - I Wish It Would Rain Down, One More Night, Another Day in Paradise, Two Hearts
Madonna - Cherish
Bruce Hornsby - Mandolin Rain, The Way It Is

Our AC has rotated some of the stuff like "The Way It Is", "If You Don't Know Me", "All My Life", "Nothing Compares 2 U", "Hands To Heaven", and "Hold On To The Nights" in the past few years but I haven't heard them lately. Lots of great stuff on the AC format in the late 80s.

These are on WJKK Jackson:

Rod Stewart - The Motown Song, This Old Heart Of Mine
Wilson Phillips - Hold On
Survivor - The Search Is Over (heard earlier today)
Richard Marx - Endless Summer Nights

What I've heard at various times on either KXXO Olympia, the Dial Global AC network, or my local KRWM Bremerton/Seattle.

Rod Stewart - This Old Heart of Mine
38 Special - Second Chance
Wilson Phillips - Hold On
Mike & The Mechanics - The Living Years
Genesis - Hold On My Heart
Elton John - Circle of Life [very, very rarely on KRWM 106.9]
Cher - After All [rotated a lot on Dial Global and KXXO]
Steve Winwood - Back in The High Life
Linda Ronstadt - All My Life [heard on Dial Global]
Simply Red - If You Don't Know Me by Now
Heights - How Do You Talk to An Angel
Madonna - Cherish [from time to time I'll hear it on Dial Global]
Phil Collins - One More Night, Two Hearts [rarer than the former]
Bruce Hornsby - The Way It Is [very common still here]

It seems like I've heard quite a few of these lately, especially the following:

Mike & The Mechanics - The Living Years
Genesis - Hold On My Heart & Throwing It All Away
Elton John - Sacrifice
Cher & Peter Cetera - After All
Rod Stewart - Downtown Train
Wilson Phillips - Hold On
Steve Winwood - Back In The High Life
Survivor - The Search Is Over
Simply Red - If You Don't Know Me By Now
Don Henley - The End Of The Innocence

All those other songs you listed are great, and I'd love to hear them all more. But unfortunately I really haven't heard them lately.

It's not an AC station but my favorite pop station plays these. I think. I'd rather just hear the Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes version of the Simply Red song.

Glad to hear these haven't all been locked away in the vault. Sure, as much as I love a lot of these, I can see why some of them aren't played, but "Hold On", "The Living Years", and "The Way It Is", especially, seem like they'd still hold up quite well and have similar tempos to a lot of the other tracks AC stations still play from that time period.

I thought I'd add that since this posting I noticed WWRM/Tampa (Cox's best mainstream AC) plays "Nothing Compares 2 U" and "How Do You Talk To An Angel" and I saw KODA in Houston is playing "Hold On My Heart."

WYJB has also played "Too Many Walls" and "Touch Me All Night Long" by Cathy Dennis, "Tell it To My Heart" by Taylor Dayne and "Everlasting Love" by Gloria Estefan in regular rotation in the past couple of years :) Any other ACs which include a fair amount of Rhythmic AC songs in their playlists?

Back in the early 2000s, Star 97 here in Nashville had a (predominantly) '80s format, and "Second Chance" was in fairly regular rotation there at the time. Fast forward to now, and 97.1 'RQQ, as they are known now, is classic hits, playing stuff from as recently as the late '80s. What goes around comes around. So I would think that "Second Chance" would be back in rotation there, although I can't recall having heard it there lately. I can't help but think that it will be back there soon. It is an anomaly among 38 Special hits, as it is the only one that I am aware of that featured Max Carl on lead vocals. Most of the rest had Don Barnes out front.

As for AC stations, I have not heard it on Mix 92.9 here in Nashville, but it still turns up from time to time on Lite 98.7 out of Hopkinsville, KY.

Ironically, it seems that most AC stations are more into playing their more "rockin'" hits, like "Hold On Loosely" and "Caught Up in You." I wish that they would at least (also) play "If I'd Been the One." That's the one that featured Julianne Phillips (future and former Mrs. Springsteen) in the video.

Been hearing all these cuts for years on KKCW, except for the first two Rod Stewart cuts* and the "'38 Special" and "Heights" cuts (never even heard of those bands.)

* "Motown Song" does get a fair amount of play on "Tempo FM" in Wetherby, England.

IIRC, I even heard Rod Stewart's "Motown Song" once DXing late at night on McMinnville, OR's KLYC 1260...

CBS's KVIL/Dallas-Fort Worth did play a few of these songs, but they eventually faded out of their playlist and some of them was dropped from their playlist update Spring last year. Now they sound extremely uptempo after their playlist update last month.

CC's WLTW/New York known as one of the most aggressive AC format in the country (not anymore compare to KVIL now) do spin a few of these songs like "Everytime You Go Away" and "Save The Best for Last" quite a bit and "The Lady In Red" rarely, once in a while.

CC's KLQT/Albuquerque which adopted the AC format in Spring 2010 played many of these songs before they adopted Premium Choice by CC in Spring 2011 and ran it 24/7 since then just like WMGF. They just flipped their format to CHR last Wed, May 16 after two years with the AC format.

CC's WMGF/Orlando which dropped Delilah, John Tesh, changed their lineups, and adopted Premium Choice back in Fall 2010 and they ran it 24/7. They later dropped Premium Choice around Summer or Fall completely and sounded really playing these songs.

Renda's KMGL/Oklahoma City was playing some of these songs throughout last year when they updated their playlist in the Spring of last year. They recently updated their playlist again this year, just last week, and it looks like they dropped the majority of these songs that they added from last year playlist update.

Renda's WEJZ/Jacksonville sounded really good before they updated their playlist in Spring 2011, they may have updated their playlist again somewhere during this Spring, but there's no place to view WEJZ playlist now. They aren't streaming online, so TuneIn isn't logging them and YES.com for some reason isn't logging them either.

Entercom's WLMG/New Orleans is like the best Entercom's AC out of other Entercom's AC's. While other Entecom's AC's like WSPA/Greenville and KKMJ/Austin are playing 1 70s per hour, it seems like WLMG are playing like what? 2-3, or even 4 70s per hour once in a while? I think, I can't remember... Before their playlist update back in January they were even spinning "I Go Crazy" hard and "Cool Night" once in a while by Paul Davis and they were also playing "How Much I Feel" and "You're The Only Woman (You & I)" by Ambrosia regularly as well, but both of Paul Davis and Ambrosia songs were dropped after their playlist update.

Greater Media's WMGC/Detroit turned out to sound really with a few of these songs after they rebranded their station as "Soft Rock 105.1".

Lincoln Financial Media's WLYF/Miami is one of the most unique Mainstream AC in the country. I really like their mix. They sure don't lack out the upbeat CHR pop hits from the 00's to currents like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Jordan Sparks, and Justin Timberlake, but they also doesn't missed out some really sleepy/easy listening 70s songs like Paul Davis and Ambrosia.

Same goes for Cheap Trick, more AC's are into their "upbeat", "rockin'" hits like "I Want You To Want Me" and "Surrender".

@andrewduong77 - thanks for adding to the list. I had forgotten a lot of the ones you added in. WMGF in Orlando's recent soft AC approach seems to be paying off for them - I don't think Orlando can support an "EZ AC" like Tampa or Miami, but I think they've done well finding a middle ground between mainstream and soft AC.

I listened to WEJZ a couple of months ago while going through Jax. They're quite upbeat now compared to a year ago. I heard Rihanna's "Only Girl", OutKast's "Hey Ya", Third Eye Blind's "Semicharmed Life", etc. They sound like most any AC, but more upbeat now. WSPA in Greenville has a similar approach these days, and they actually play very few 70s anymore, way less than once an hour. Chuck-FM plays a ton of 70s here.

Listeners in Miami also have Cox's 97.3 The Coast/WFLC in addition to the softer AC's. They're more of an upbeat AC, but 3 choices isn't bad. I agree, I love WLYF when I want to hear softer stuff (and WMGC).

Magic 106.7 (Boston) used to play some of that music. They used to play "Do It To Me One More Time" by Lionel Richie, "Cry For Help" by Rick Astley, "I Wonder Why" By Curtis Stigers, they don't even play (Luther Vandros, Freddie Jackson, and Jeffrey Osbourne) whom they used to play back around (2003 and before)
Seeing that there are no (True) Urban AC stations in Boston, you'd think they'd give it an effort to play some NEW/and Old Urban AC
Yeah they play 4 Tops,
but they should give it an effort

Here's one - does any AC, or did they ever, play "Girl Can't Help It" by Journey from 1986? I always liked that one, but my local adult hits station is the only format that touches it. It's one of my favorites by them - it was a way bigger hit than "Lights", which got played to death on AC for whatever reason...probably still does on some.
