Do any CBS affiliates not air The Young and the Restless?

I'm just wondering if there were any CBS affiliates that did not air Y&R at one time or another (tape-delaying it to 4:00 PM does not count). I would think Y&R always had 100% clearance on all CBS affiliates in the U.S., but I could be wrong.

Atlanta's CBS affiliate in 1973, WAGA, blacked out Y&R from its 3/26/73 debut to mid June 1976. They delayed it to 1 PM, replacing a week delay of Match Game '76.

For a while, KMGH 7 delayed Y&R to the oddball time of 11:30 AM tgo make time for an 11:00 AM newscast, Then, they moved it back to 10:30 AM after they resumed carrying B&B on a one day delay at 10:00 AM (After YEARS of not carrying it AT ALL) with some other show at 11:00 AM

Then just before the Big Switch, they started carrying the ABC soap "Loving" (Which KUSA 9 hadn't carried for YEARS) on the very same one day delay as B&B - At 10:00 AM followed by B&B at 10:30 AM (Still on a one day delay) & Y&R at the network recommended time of 11:00 AM

I think KKTV 11 down in Colorado Springs also toyed with Y&R a little but I get what they did though

It's not like it was prior to the mid-to-late '90s, where network-affiliated stations had more free reign in not clearing certain daytime shows; I've mentioned in another thread that it seemed that the 10am ET (9am CT/PT) hour back in the day was the hour being most affected, in terms of preemptions of network daytime shows, whether it was CBS or NBC. At least ABC, back then, gave their stations an extra hour (two in ET) of local/syndication programming in the hour leading out of Good Morning America.

I remember reading that in Sacramento, Guiding Light wasn't cleared on KOVR when it switched from ABC to CBS in 1995, and it stayed that way even after CBS bought KOVR several years later, up to the bitter end in 2009.

WBTV didn’t air it until right before it went to an hour in 1980 according to listings on here. At first it aired “Scene at Noon” at noon, then “Search For Tomorrow”, then “Betty Feezor.” When “Top O’ The Day” premiered it aired at noon for an hour and Search moved to 1 on a 30 minute delay. They finally cleared Y&R at 1pm in early 1980 or late 1979, which bumped Search to 10am a day late. After Y&R moved to an hour they aired Y&R in pattern at first at 1pm, then moved it to 10am a day behind, then finally moved The Price Is Right back to 10:30am except it was now a day behind, Top O’The Day to 11:30am and Y&R to 12:30pm in pattern. The day they moved Y&R to 12:30 from 10am they aired Y&R at 10:30am and 12:30pm to catch up (I happened to see a guide from that day). TPIR didn’t move back to 11am until 1992 when Top O’The Day was cancelled and they went with a regular 30 minute newscast at noon. I think WCCB picked up Y&R at times but not the whole time.

I'm not aware of CBS affiliates that didn't carry Y&R, but on the ABC side, Dayton, Ohio didn't clear General Hospital for many years. When WKEF-22 was an ABC affiliate in the 1970s, they ran their popular local Clubhouse 22. When the affiliation moved to WDTN-2, that station also didn't carry it, replacing it with cartoons or other syndication, at least through the late 90s as I recall. This included the Luke and Laura heyday. Anybody who wanted to see GH in the Dayton market had to pick it up from Cincy or Columbus.

WSPA in Spartanburg always aired Y&R, first at noon, then at 1, then at 12:30.

Given how several people, most notably Rick Springfield, became big stars because of General Hospital, this is very surprising.

9 Big Stars You Totally Forgot Were on 'General Hospital' (TV Insider)

WREG in Memphis always showed Y&R in pattern. They were always good about showing the full CBS schedule except for the 3 PM slot when they went to movies and later syndicated programming. The only time when I didn't like them doing it though was when Match Game and later Press Your Luck ran at that time. Most other times there were other shows I didn't care about seeing.

Thank you. I believed this was true.

When I was in college, the students who gathered around the TV loved "Ryan's Hope". Not me. Somehow i got interested in "The Young and the Restless" around the time Nikki joined the cast and Paul went undercover because his father got in trouble for something he didn't do.

And Paul's boss, I later found out, was the accused in "To Kill a Mockingbird".

KVII in Amarillo, TX didn't clear All My Children for many years except for 1984 to 1988 (when it aired at 11:00 AM on a one-day delay), 2000 to 2002 (when it aired in the late-night hours), and then in the fall of 2002, it was back at 11:00 AM until it ended in 2011.

I recently saw some listings from the summer of 1981 and I discovered WBTV didn’t actually move Y&R from 1pm to 10am until September 1981. So for 3 months WBTV carried Y&R and ATWT on a 30 minute delay (because the network moved them to 12:30 and 1:30pm Eastern in June 1981). They continued to air Search for Tomorrow a day behind at 10am. WBTV then moved ATWT and Search for Tomorrow to 1:30pm and 2:30pm in pattern when they moved Y&R to 10am and a year later they moved Y&R to 12:30, TPIR to 10:30 and Top O’ The Day to 11:30.

WTVT Tampa carried Y&R at 1 PM for a few months when it was new (approximately March-August 1973), then expanded its noon newscast to an hour, moved Search for Tomorrow to 1 PM, and dropped Y&R. When Y&R returned, after it went to an hour, it was aired on a day-behind at 1 PM; Capitol and Bold and the Beautiful were pre-empted (B&B ended up on an independent). When CBS moved to WTSP, it opted to carry Y&R and B&B in pattern at 12:30 and 1:30, respectively. Despite the naysayers who didn't think Bay Area viewers would take to the change, it has worked out just fine. Elsewhere in Florida, WKMG Orlando did not carry Y&R in its first year. It aired Secret Storm on delay at noon, followed by Search at 12:30 and local news at 1. When Secret Storm was canceled in 1974, Channel 6 began airing Y&R in pattern and has done so ever since.

WCPO Cincinnati is another one that ran an hour of news at noon, followed by Search at 1. I'm not sure when they picked up Y&R; I know that WKRC carries it at 12:30.

I think WBTV aired Y&R on a day delay at 1 right before switching to 10am because they aired a special at 1pm the week before. They might have actually aired ATWT on a day delay at 2 during those three months.

So WTVT aired it on a day delay at 1? That’s odd, they could’ve just recorded the 11am CT/noon ET feed and played it at 1pm ET.

I think WJBK in Detroit in the 80s & early 90s didn't air Y&R they aired syndication before taking Fox in 94. I'm sure WJBK aired Y&R WADL was considered the defacto CBS everyone thought that WADL was going to be CBS but WADL owner made demands and CBS balked amazing that no one wanted CBS in Detroit in 94, and CBS had to buy channel 62 in 94 no takers.

Looking at old listings on the site KRNT (Now KCCI) channel 8 in Des Moines Iowa Young and the Restless did not air when it first launched in 1973. Instead they aired the soap opera The Secret Storm.

There isn't any listings until December 1974 and by that time and now known as KCCI 8 they were airing The Young and the Restless at 11am.

WSPA in Spartanburg always aired Y&R, first at noon, then at 1, then at 12:30.
And before WAGA picked up Y&R we were getting it on cable in Athens thanks to WSPA. It was gather-round-the-TV-in-the-dorm time when Y&R was on Channel 7 (noon at the time). Even when Channel 5 started carrying it, people continued to watch it on 7; it came on WSPA at noon and on WAGA at 1. I suspect that before WBTV picked it up, people in the Charlotte market watched it on either WSPA or WFMY.
