Do any talk shows in the "middle" win?

Since Sunday's blitz by Clinton on TV, right and left talkers have been going ballistic. On the right "unhinged!@!!, on the left "Fox leveled!" This morning, Drudge has Condi calling him a liar, so you just know that will be subject matter all day. Frankly, I would welcome a more balanced debate somewhere. Is there such a creature? And do they win? Or if not, is this the reason you only see talkers on the left or right? Just curious.

On the national level, the short answer is "NO." There are no syndicated political talk shows which are not ideology driven.

Now, by "middle" do you mean: (1) The Chinese Menu approach; a host who sometimes agrees with the "conservative" positions and sometimes agrees with "liberal" positions? (2) The Lukewarm Approach; a host tries for some compromise position between the two major camps (OK, but not so much)? (3) The Non-committal approach; the host does not take or downplays his own positions and focuses more on the opinions of callers and/or guests? Number three might work; the other two sound guaranteed not to please anybody. Some local hosts have done well by emphasizing personality, impartial humor (directed at EVERYBODY on the political scene), local topics and water-cooler/life-style topics over political ideology.

I want a host that's not some party's lap dog. This way, if there's something fishy happening on one side or the other, we hear about it. For instance, another 3 Former top generals want Rumsfeld to take a hike, but you're not going to hear one show today that cuts it both ways. On the right, all the generals will be scoundrels. On the left, they're the greatest. There's no place to hear both sides of an issue.

Another reason radios have tuners.
Guess you will have to listen to more than one talk show.
Better yet, I recommend reading. Still the best way to get ideas and information.

There's a few middle-of-the-road talkers out there.

Mike McConnell is probably the most noteable one. His weekend show is on quite a few stations, and he just started syndicating his WLW weekday show. He's pretty good.

And I believe Doug Stephan also falls into that category. He's on early mornings.

Some may even claim Don Imus, but I think cocaine has fried what's left of his mind.

And I'd probably put George Noory and the Coast to Coast crew in there, though they veer off into weird topics and conspiracy theories.

Also, there are still many middle-of-the-road talk stations out there, like WGN in Chicago or WCCO in Minneapolis, though they don't really get into polarizing topics much.

It is indeed hard to find moderate talkers out there. Seems like it's one side or the other.

have heard a show by a guy named Alan Nathan--briefly carried on WNSH in Beverly MA. He calls himself The
Militant Moderate and he says on his site:"we want the Democrats out of our wallets and the Republicans
out of our bedrooms, and both out of our First and Second Amendment Rights. Tired of the usual liberal/conservative treatment that strangles most media debates? Fed up with positions ignored unless they meet their pigeon-holed agenda? Then tune in to Alan Nathan, the centrist with teeth, as he advances a more biting aggressiveness to both sides of the political spectrum."

>>I want a host that's not some party's lap dog

Some hosts have disagreed with major positions. Howie Carr, conservative, disagrees with Bush on immigration, as does Hannity. Alan Colmes has said that if Democrats do something he disagrees with
he'll say so etc.
